I live in Louisiana and have reported my sewage backing up to my landlord on several occasions, tonight, he hung up on me and has refused to fix it. My toilet is backing up into my bathtub! Where do I call to report this problem?

Call an Attorney. If he see's a letter from a lawyer, he'll fix it. Otherwise, document that he refused to fix it and then move out. You have rights as a tenant to break your lease if your landlord does something like that. Hope this helps!

I can understand your frustration as I am a landlord, but I keep my units in top shape. If they are maintained regularly, then it is cheaper to fix. I would like to give you a suggestion before calling city hall or the county you live in. You said you have requested for her to fix things and never has. The quickest thing to do that will tick off your landlord is turn them in. Even though you said you have talked to her, she may deny every conversation. To help yourself, take pictures and document everything. Then send her a certified letter, with return receipt so that you have proof she signed for it. The letter should explain in a nice way the problems, and list of concerns you have and pictures. Try not to be demanding, but be firm. Put a date out there, that you wish to meet with her to set a timeline to fix these problems. If she does not respond, or sets a date and misses the deadline, then take all this information to the city or county. Another suggestion is when you get an answer from her, request in you letter it be in writing. And the date you put out there should be a minimum of 10 working days to allow for mail delivery and response time. Good luck, If you need more help check my profile and email me.

The landlord should rod the sewer line. If the sewage is coming up the tub, it is not right. Once the line is rodded if he finds something flushed down the toilet, you will be charged.
Call the city zoning department, or building and neighborhood services. Give him one more chance or you will make an enemy for life.
