My friend mentioned that her friend started drinking grapefruit juice to lose weight and she went from a size 28 to a size 18. Didnt think to ask what else she did (as far as eatin) but.... is this true? Could you lose weight/inches from drinking grapefruit juice? What about cranberry juice?

I doubt that by just adding grapefruit juice to your diet that you could lose any weight. Unfortunately, it is almost never this easy. What normally happens with these types of fad diets is that you believe that one thing is helping (such as the daily juice), while instead what is really helping is that you are in a "diet" mindset, and thus actually consuming less calories and probably adding in some extra exercise at the same time.
The problem with these types of diets is that they require you to do something that you can't keep up forever. In this case, I bet that after a few months you wouldn't be able to stomach grapefruit juice for a while! At this point, the weight would probably start to come back, since you never really learned "healthy eating".
There is a pretty reliable way to lose weight and not struggle too much. It is simple keeping a small journal of what you eat every day and what type of exercise you do. It is also nice to estimate how many calories were in the food you ate. Then, at the end of the day, you not only know if you ate too many calories, but also where the extra calories came from that you could cut out. Once this becomes a habit, you learn the foods that you like to eat that don't kill your calorie counts for the day.
I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.
