Liberation Theology, Civil Rights Movement, Catholic Church?

I am trying to find a living Catholic historian, priest, nun, etc. who either played an active role in the US Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and Liberation Theology, or has studied and written about it. Does anyone know of someone like that? If so, contact information would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

I didn't realize it was that controversial. I am researching this for a friend who heads up a liberal think tank in DC. He is looking for someone like I described to give input on this topic. It might be harder to find someone than I realized, at least someone living. He did say that the person could be an historian and I think his interest lies in the role that Liberation Theology played in the Civil Rights movement.

His primary interest in a Catholic slant on this topic.

I am not a Cathlolic historian, priest or nun, but I was involved in the Civil Rights Movement of the 60 forward and I have studied Liberation Theology.

Civil Rights you can get off the net, but my first activity was in the late 50s in Chattanooga and I was active until the early 70s. As for Liberation Theology, that is something that a lot of people will not discuss openly with you. The Catholic Church opposes it and has from the beginning because it flies into the face of their power and gives power to the people in a sort of a sense of the word. Here I would suggest that you find data on Gustavo Guiterrez (or however you spell it). There is a book entitled LIBERATION THEOLOGY by him as well as several others one of which is entitled WE DRINK FROM OUT OWN WELLS. There are many others who wrote and write, and the movement, though basically not going fast in Catholic circles has caught on a bit with blacks. Find something out about the black theologian Cone who was teaching at Columbia.

If you can find a liberal theological institution, you can call them and asked for the professor that handles that course work. Most will not get that involved with you and will try to keep it simple.
