Whatever happened to delegates won by John Edwards?
Since he has not endorced either remaining Democratic candidate, what happens to the delagates he won in the primaries and cacusus before he dropped out?
Can they be picked up by Clinton or Obama? How would that happen?

As of right now, they are still assigned to Edwards, even though he is no longer running. If he endorses one of the remaining candidates, he will urge his delegates to back the one he endorses, although they are not required to do so. If the nomination goes all the way to the convention, his delegates could be used as a negotiating tool along with the superdelegates to reach a deal
It's not a lot of delegates - -just 26. In some states Edwards got some votes but did not get the 15% you need to get awarded delegates. Punkie's dad is right. Candidates who drop out during the race with some delegates do sometimes use their delegates to bargain at the convention to get the party to put things they believe in the party platform (though that seems not as big a deal as it used to be) .... or maybe it can help them to be offered the VP spot by a candidate who might be put over the top if they get those delegates of the candidate who had dropped out.
Edwards does not have a big bargaining chip but the way things will come down to the wire every delegate may be crucial.
As general on those regulations questions, maximum respondents only make it up as they flow! it truly is te info (i am going to admit i do not have the information on the numbers in touch or which state's delegates can do precisely what - i guess i could could care much more beneficial than I do to locate that out!) Edwards can no longer provide his delegates to absolutely everyone. He can ask them to vote for a particular candidate if he so chooses. they could tell him to bounce contained in the lake in the adventure that they so opt for or so ok John do not get your $four hundred hair decrease all tousled we are able to do it. each and each is loose to make his/her personal judgements. except for those in states that bind the delegates to vote for whomever they were pledged to for the first poll - those delegates could vote for Edwards no matter if he tells them he would not opt for his or her votes, no matter if he is going to penal complex, no matter if he's convicted of treason, and no matter if he dies. Like I reported, i do not which states have those regulations and what percentage delegates for Edwards were chosen in them, even if the guidelines do exist in some states. i imagine Edwards is doing the right mission. he's -like a number of those different those who're or were presidential applicants - a political candidate first and optimal. Making both Clinton or Obama mad at him even as he won't be able to come to a call the election, in any case, could be stupid for his personal destiny. Edwards nonetheless ought to be president. After this mess is over -and pretty if McCain wins the elction like i imagine he will, Edwards is going to be interior the front-runner's seat for 2012. Why mess that up?
