There was a tear in our toilet flapper so we replaced it with one that is identical. When the flapper goes down, though, it does not fall right on where it can seal. Instead it falls slightly forawrd and stays there. If you move it manually you can get it right on to seal it.
The toilet bowl just keeps filling up because the flapper is not sealed.
Any ideas how we can fix this?

look closely at the flapper attachment spot. You might need to turn it a tiny bit, or find a way to lift the underspot to raise the angle, resulting in a rearward shift of the flapper surface. If it has small bolts holding the flapper to the mounting device, you can try slipping a couple of small washers under the flapper fabric to raise the angle.
Tilting or shifting the fill pipe, where the flapper is usually attached to, can be tried, albeit very gently. I hate having to replace those! the lower seal can get good bit wonky
As a last ditch effort, shut off the water, drain the tank (flush) ang break out the hair dryer. Warm the flapper ball gently so that it is softer than usual, and then press it onto the drain ring.
DO be careful not to electrocute yourself, make sure you are using a grounded appliance in a GFCI recepticle, and everything is dry first!
This is like re-shaping the gasket on the fridge when the seal starts to get older and lets air pass.
