I have thought about this for awhile. Are we, as human beings, MEANT to be happy? Is that what is intended for us? With all of the religions out there and the different philosophies, it seems to me that perhaps we are meant to suffer. Isn't it only after suffering that we can appreciate the happy moments? And, since we learn from our mistakes, don't we need to fall down before we can start back up the ladder again? People say we are meant to be happy- life is too short- it should be enjoyed- all of the cliches, but, are we really? And, how can one ever really be happy with all of the sadness out there? Isn't being happy akin to burying your head in the sand?

I DON'T THINK WE ARE MEANT TO BE ANYTHING.WE MAKE OUR OWN HAPPINESS OR SADDNESS.WE CHOSE TO CHANGE OR NOT TO CHANGE TO BE HAPPY OR SAD.WE CHOSE TO REPEAT THE SAME MISTAKES OVER AND OVER AGIAN.OR TO LEARN FROM THEM.
For me, happiness comes in the little things. I suppose I found a way to be happy when I learned that regardless of what is happening outside me, I can control how I react to it. When happiness is internal, it can't be taken away. How we react to our mistakes, suffering (and we will suffer, regardless of internal happiness--it's part of life), and joys reflects our character. We are only meant to be happy if it's something we choose and as creatures of free will, it's a choice we have to make.
It's the only best way to live. Without happiness, what dread is life! Whether we're meant to or not, if we spend too much time thinking and worrying about it, it's likely we won't be happy. Happiness is like the flow you get when you play a musical instrument, dance, or do performing arts. If you criticize, analyze, and continually monitor your moves, it's hard to get the flow, a high when you get into what you're doing.
I believe we are not meant to be happy as the same way we are not meant to be obese, anorexic, gay, psychopathic, drunk or even depressed. But even if we are not meant to be these things some people are still like this anyway and the same applies to happiness. So basically none of us have to be what we are meant to be but what can still be we want to be and the key to happiness is by wanting to be happy. So the only thing stopping you from being happy is yourself.
A Human being is very complexed, your own thoughts and emotion, affect your feeling that you consider ,your own definition and understanding of what you consider as happiness.
If you are a very social conscious person , you set your own limits to what happiness is, in a world so full of injustice, suffering and unhappiness. You find it hard to consider the good things in your life as happiness, when so many others suffer.
