with piercings and tattoos becoming more mainstream will they eventually become acceptable?

to the point where you can get a decent job and have some facial piercing or a visible tattoo.

Absolutely. Remember, t-shirts were considered pornographic by some of our grandparents- "they're underwear! Do you wear underwear in public?". I was told similar - "they'll never hire you" - about my pierced ears.

I'm laughing all the way to the bank from my university position, previously a 6 figure computer industry job until I grew bored of it, on that one.

If people don't accept change, it's because we let them not accept change. Rosa wasn't offered a seat, after all.

I say yes. I have a very good job working for a big corporation in a field which is traditionally conservative, and I have a half-sleeve that you can see whenever I wear short sleeve shirts and tats on my legs you can see with skirts or capri pants. My boss is in her late 30s and has no problem with my tattoos. On the other hand, my last job was run by a much older man who wouldn't allow tattoos, piercings, or even jeans in his office!

Our bosses are quickly becoming people who started their careers in the 90s, when tattooing and piercing became really mainstream, and their ink policies are becoming more lenient than the rulemakers who came before them. Look for a job run by younger people and you'll probably be ok.

Of course. Think about this.. the majority of the people who hate tattoos and piercings are going to belong to an older generation. Once the generation of people with piercings and tattoos start to have careers and get older, tattoos and piercings will become more acceptable.

First off...Coffee LOL....passing phase...tats and piercings have been around seen man first walked the earth. They are more popular now then they ever were I doubt they are going anywhere..

Now to the main point. One can hope that in time it will be easier to get a higher paying job with tats and piercings. Right now it is the luck of the draw if you get an employer who likes or can tolerate them. My hope is that as the older generation moves out and the younger generation moves up it will make things easier for us tattooed and pierced folks. For now tho I will keep my tats in areas that I can hide easily for a job and buy clear retainers for my piercings.

already are and have been. I'm Tatted out. You must pick and choose your battles, per say as some one that has to deal with customers all day do think a company wants someone that does not reflect there standards ie banks and high end businesses. The U.S. Military has total revamped there codes and polices towards ink. If you get hierd by some one the first thing you should due is read there policy's if you want the job change if you want to be one of us colorful people find a job that makes you happy. Only get ink for you not for your friends or I want something spur of the moment crap. enjoy the pain and the beauty of them!
