Absolutely. Remember, t-shirts were considered pornographic by some of our grandparents- "they're underwear! Do you wear underwear in public?". I was told similar - "they'll never hire you" - about my pierced ears.

I'm laughing all the way to the bank from my university position, previously a 6 figure computer industry job until I grew bored of it, on that one.

If people don't accept change, it's because we let them not accept change. Rosa wasn't offered a seat, after all.

I say yes. I have a very good job working for a big corporation in a field which is traditionally conservative, and I have a half-sleeve that you can see whenever I wear short sleeve shirts and tats on my legs you can see with skirts or capri pants. My boss is in her late 30s and has no problem with my tattoos. On the other hand, my last job was run by a much older man who wouldn't allow tattoos, piercings, or even jeans in his office!

Our bosses are quickly becoming people who started their careers in the 90s, when tattooing and piercing became really mainstream, and their ink policies are becoming more lenient than the rulemakers who came before them. Look for a job run by younger people and you'll probably be ok.

Of course. Think about this.. the majority of the people who hate tattoos and piercings are going to belong to an older generation. Once the generation of people with piercings and tattoos start to have careers and get older, tattoos and piercings will become more acceptable.

First off...Coffee LOL....passing phase...tats and piercings have been around seen man first walked the earth. They are more popular now then they ever were I doubt they are going anywhere..

Now to the main point. One can hope that in time it will be easier to get a higher paying job with tats and piercings. Right now it is the luck of the draw if you get an employer who likes or can tolerate them. My hope is that as the older generation moves out and the younger generation moves up it will make things easier for us tattooed and pierced folks. For now tho I will keep my tats in areas that I can hide easily for a job and buy clear retainers for my piercings.

already are and have been. I'm Tatted out. You must pick and choose your battles, per say as some one that has to deal with customers all day do think a company wants someone that does not reflect there standards ie banks and high end businesses. The U.S. Military has total revamped there codes and polices towards ink. If you get hierd by some one the first thing you should due is read there policy's if you want the job change if you want to be one of us colorful people find a job that makes you happy. Only get ink for you not for your friends or I want something spur of the moment crap. enjoy the pain and the beauty of them!

    wow i love this question

i was actually thinking about this the other day.

well i dont think it will be very soon because all of the older generations still dont accept it, but maybe sometimetime in the future, it will become acceptable.

well at least i hope so, i really dont think someone should be judged on how well they can perform a job or how smart they are just because they may have a lip ring for example.

i think it may get more and more acceptable though, since people are "acceptable" with ear piercings.

Source(s): get judged on how i dress and my piercings + stretched lobes and the music i listen to all the time (btw i gave u a star)

I think they will become acceptable to the point where it will be easier to find a job when you have piercings and/or tattoos, but they will never become 100% accepted. Just like there will always be racists, sexists, etc... there will always be people who do not accept piercings, tattoos, and other forms of Body Mod.

I definitely think piercings and tattoos will become more accepted WAY quicker than brandings, scarifications, implants, tongue splittings, and such will.

We've still got a loong way to go, but we're getting there.

I am 48 years old, and in my lifetime tattoo's have come an amazingly long way. They have become more mainstream. But, I doubt they will ever be considered "acceptable" but they sure will be more accepted than they are now. I doubt a guy like me, with a nearly completed body suit, will ever be able to go short sleeves in an office environment.

Hopefully, but it's a really grey area, just because tattoos and piercings have been around for centuries and culturally excepted in different societies. In ours it's a growing fad, it's becoming a part of todays current pop culture. But like most things in america we are constantly reforming and unreforming overtime.

they allready are , have seen lots of girls with there nose pierced and many have ok jobs . so i don't think it hurt there chances.

as for tattoo's lots of people have them now , many young women especially have been geting them in recent years. so i don't think they would be a problem as long as there small and in a private place or covered up . but with the amount of girls who have lower back tattooed , in the future it will not be a big deal to show that one since they will be creeping out on so many different girls behinds when they bend over. know that sounds a little groose but will be true.
