Why do Christian Apologist often contradict themselves? Detailed example given below....?

On the Christian Apologetics site, www.carm.org, I was reading about the many commands God gave Israel to kill all the inhabitants of certain cities... "save alive nothing that breatheth".

The explanation provided is that these people were "wicked" in the eyes of the Lord. But what about the children, I asked? How could Israelites in good conscience, kill small children and babies? Luckily Christianity had an answer for me :

http://www.carm.org/diff/Deut_2_32.htm

The killing of children was a "very merciful thing" because having been born to wicked parents, these children might also have grown up to be wicked. I was satisfied with that until I looked on their abortion page.

http://www.carm.org/abortion/abortion_wrong.htm

Cam states that abortion is always wrong because it kills the innocent. And I quote "Since when do we kill someone who's only "crime" was to be brought into existence via the copulation of his parents?"

Anyone else see the contradiction?

Kiki Dee, you will make a very fine Christian Apologist someday. Instead of orphanages, we can just kill children who don't have parents. (But abortion is still wrong...LOL). Thanks for the argument.

tj217d, you too are missing the point. If it is acceptable to kill the children of your enemies, then why can't your enemies legalized abortion?

There were no social services in those days. Who would have taken care of them? Spiritually they were spared, even though physically they were not. This was also an act of war, not an ongoing practice.

Abortion is not part of a judgement from God. It's murder, which God commanded not to do.

I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Back in those days, there was no real medicine. The sex of the pagan religions involved homosexuality, anal sex, sex with animals.

Children would be born with these diseases quite likely.

They were allowed to take virgins as wives in cultures that did not allow this gross stuff.

However, these people and children are NOT lost. They could not help where they were born or how their leaders enslaved and mislead them.

Only deliberate wilful sin after you have received knowledge of the truth is unpardonable. Hebrews 10:26, 29, Matthew 12:31, 32, 36, 37.

These people have hope of being resurrected to a righteous new earth forgiven of all their sins, with perfect sinless bodies and getting their children back also to live in God's kingdom without goons charging them money to teach them all those horrid sex practices, infant sacrifice, etc. Isaiah 33:24, Romans 6:7, 23.

So instead of suffering evil, rape, who knows what in the way of illness, etc. They get to sleep peacefully with no pain or bliss and come back whole and refreshed.

Christendom is pagan, hateful, lying.

Any apologist can only give as good of an answer they can create, therefore they are limited because they do not have the direct connection to God for an answer.
Yes it is a contradiction but then there are many. Overall like most religions, they are unable to see the whole picture. The other thing I've noticed is that most have the only purpose of helping those that already have the faith, therefore they don't expect follow up questions or a real discussion. Religion teaches people to not ask questions but to believe through unquestioning faith.

I believe they often contradict themselves or people in general for that matter do to appease themselves. They do it so that the rules stick for them and the situations they need the answers to. Never looking at it from a all points of view! They sterotype what they don't understand and they condem what they dont know. Honestly, know child should be killed, but at the same time foster parents, orphanages have proven to us that they also can't be trusted.

Well, as has already been said, it IS a belief. However, I'd make more cases for Jesus if people would stop trying to poke holes in the whole God idea. I can only respond to so many answers in a day.
