Hy,

I have the same problem-no sound. First I've checked if there's any yellow exclamation mark or red X. Next i replaced current sound card with the old one, that should be working. But nothing changed. Furthermore my anti-virus program was reported damaged. Then i discovered Win32:SdBot-gen44(Trj) with my Avast anti-virus program, that i have on my USB flash drive. Perhaps you have the same problem.
Does anyone know if this virus could be the cause of this problem?
I'm sorry if my english isn't proper.

heh that would be a pretty lame virus more often than anything else it's due to a setting in a 'player' program u have, lord knows why people need real player media player, itunes, and whatever else they download just to play some files but it's not neccesary and it is possible that one program has stolen the default programs sound settings,, this can be from a malicious program however i would check that first. Furthermore it's a good choice to do a scan if u suspect a virus. sound is pretty much free game for a windows PC so yea it's possible,, however more than a virus it's most likely a trojan,, check the programs u've downloaded

I get tired of this. people say something is wrong with my computer so it must be a virus.. IT's not a virus all the time and it's not a virus in this situation.

Are the speakers part of the monitor? or are you talking about the internal speakers

Right click on my computer and go to properties. click on the hardware tab and then go to device manager. Check to make sure that your sound drivers are installed. if not you will either not see them or you will see a red X. IF the driver is installed then shutdown and restart your computer. if you still can't get it to work take it to a shop and get a tech to look at it.

It could be the speakers are really broken. If you can, try changing it to a spare one just to prove that its not the problem.

It could also be that your driver is not working properly. Try reinstalling the driver.

It could be virus. But the chance is very low.

Sometimes its also problems from the mother board.

You said you tried plugging in speakers, did you disabled the built-in?

If you really suspect that it a virus then try 2-3 different antiviruses just to make sure. The last ting you can do is, ofcourse, have your pc reformat.

Something might have corrupted your sound drivers. God i really dont feel like typing the whole process. Click on start, control panel, system, click the "hardware" tab and click on device manager. Then go to "sound, video and game controllers" at the bottom. Check and see if there is a yellow question mark next to anything in that section if it is... email me.. unless someone already gave u a answer by then. Good Luck!
