If a person was hit by a hit and run car how could the police find them.?

My son was hit by a hit and run on Nov. 9 and we have'nt had a word since. The police are not helping us or giving us answers. I'd like this person found so he can get on with his life.
How do we motivate the police to find this person. Suggestion????
Please I need some helpful advise.

See if your son remembers a plate number of if somebody saw what happened if not the police aren't mind readers they will never find the jerk that hit your son.

If there's no evidence left at the scene or any eyewitnesses, they don't catch him/her.
