Is this a hit and run? A person backing out and hitting my car and taking off?

I was in the car when this car was backing up and hit my car on the side. He/she/they didnt step out to check anything and just sped off. I happened to take down the license plate number. I saw a few scratches, but nothing major. Is this considered a hit and run? Should i just forget about it? It was pretty rude of them not to check though >.<

Yes, Technically it is hit and run, But a few things to consider, with the damage being so minor, it is possible that the person who backed into you may not have even realized they hit you, most hit and runs normally occur in accidents with substantial damage, years ago a simmular thing happened to me but i chased the woman down and come to find out she was not even aware she backed into my car, after speaking with her i honestly beleived her, and from your own story i think its just like mine the damage was not an issue it was just the principle that she didnt stop to say sorry or anything, If you call the police they will write a report but most in likely thats all because of two reasons, 1) Since this didnt just happen, Technically you both left the scene of an accident, 2) when they contact her she will just say she didnt know or deny hitting you, best advise is to just let it go, accidents happen people make mistakes, and its not woth the worry,

Yes, absolutely, this is hit-and-run, leaving the scene of an accident, and it doesn't matter if what they hit was a person or a car or a fence post. They can--and should--lose their license for this sort of behavior. Contact the police immediately. Glad you got the number. This is a very serious offense, and the most common reason for running is that the person had too much to drink. So you could be saving a life besides, not just punishing someone for rudeness. Although taking a stand against rudeness is enough of a reason for me.

Yes it is considered a hit and run, if anyone hits your vehicle and takes off without making sure everything and everyone is ok. It is considered a felony to damage another person property and flee the scene.

Source(s): It happened to my mother, her van was hit by the newspaper delivery guy and he took off without reporting the damage. He got plenty of tickets and fines in relation to the hit and run accident.

Report it to the Cops, it is "leaving the scene of an accident" at least and can only help your case with the insurance company - the police probably won't do anything though......

Its not hit and run. That only relates to hitting a person. However its pretty s**ty behaviour. Poor etiquette

    I would say so

Phone your local police centre and ask them for advice - you dont need to leave your name etc.. if you dont want

Might make your insurance claim harder - as if it wasnt your fault then why should you pay!!
