I'm having a problem with the person in charge of little league. What can I do?

My family has been involved in Little League for several years. Every year the same person is in charge. I'm having a problem with her. If her son is losing and it's time to call the game because if time constraints, we have to continue the game at a later date. But if her son's team is winning, and it's time to call the game, of course, that's it. Game over. They win.

I would like to some other parents get involved and maybe have some type of election. Can we do this?

Little League rules clearly state when a game should be continued or when it is considered complete. Take a look at these rules. If you can, get a little league rule book, look them up. If she is violating rules to give her son a chance to win, then report her to the local district. But realize she may just be following what the rulebook says.

Another important note: only the umpire can call the game for darkness, time limit, or bad weather. Not a league administrator. Once the game starts, the umpire has full authority.

At the lower levels, where games are 6 innings long:
If a game ends before the end of the 1st inning, nothing counts and you replay from the beginning on another day.

If a game is ended after the 4th inning is complete, then it reverts back to the last full inning and the team that was ahead wins. For example, the home team is ahead 5-3 after the 4th inning. the visiting team takes the lead 6-3 in the top of the 5th, but then the umpire calls the game for darkness. The game would revert back to the score at the end of the 4th, the home team wins 5-3. There is no make up game, since 4 innings were completed.

If the game ends after the top half of the 4th, AND the home team is ahead, then the home team wins and there is no make up game. for example, after the visiting team completes their batting for the top of the 4th, the umpire calls the game in the bottom of the 4th. The home team is ahead 5-3, so the final score is 5-3. its just like having the home team not bat in the bottom of 6th if they are winning.

If the game ends anytime between the end of the 1st and the end of the 4th, the game is incomplete and should be made up on another day. The game picks up right where it left off, down to the pitch. If the umpire calls the game with 2 out in the bottom of the 3rd, with a 2-1 count, then the batter has a 2-1 count when the make-up game starts, same runners on the same bases, same lineup, everything.

The only difference for higher levels where games are 7 innings is that the cut-off inning for being considered complete is the 5th insead of the 4th.

More thoughts:
Also remember this person is a volunteer. If she is violating the rules for her son's advantage, maybe you could write a polite letter reminding her that make up games are clearly defined in the rule book, also remind her that little league is about kids having fun more than its about winning and losing. You might also mention that she is setting a bad example and teaching kids that its okay to cheat if it helps you win.

Have several other parents sign the letter to show her that you're seriously concerned. But before you do anything, make sure she is actually violating the rules.

OK Having LL experience as player, umpire and for one season coach, I have seen this scenario a bunch.

Double check the rules book to verify if the game is to be completed or is an official game. I am not sure the revert back clause still exists in LL as it does not exist in any other code. The play mentioned earlier (visitors take lead in top of 5th of 6th inning game and home team does not bat in bottom of 5th) is incorrect. When the visiting team scores to tie or take the lead in the inning after the point of the game becoming official it is a suspended game to be resumed from point of interruption at the next opportunity these two teams play.

Just be smart about the rules and if she needs to change the rules to make herself feel better about her life through her son then she needs to consult some form of help ( clergy, therapist, etc.)

Hit her upside the head with a bat. Just kidding of course but I am sure you can vote her out if you & some other moms & dads, maybe talk to whoever sponsors the little league & it's really ashamed that one parent can make a fun game &good time for the kids out to be a distraction to the other parents. Good luck.

I have had that problem before and I went over there head and yes she got spoken to but she is a volunteer so they need her no matter what. I just moved to another league there is church league and so on. So when it's over take your child and go but remember that if your husband doesn't coach or you this will happen everywhere and they stack teams the same volunteers. goo luck

Yes, I am having the same problem. She wants her son to in. Talk with some parents and little leaguers. See if you can vote a new Little League president.
