Do guys, or girls define what a chick flick is? I mean would a guy say, "no straight guy would watch that movie unless he was forced by his girlfriend." or would a girl say, "OMG this is like the best movie ever, all girls should watch this movie!"
ok maybe thats not exactly what would be said, but you get the point!

I think a "chick flick" is a movie that would be enjoyed more by a female audience than a male audience. Not to say that a "straight guy" wouldn't like it but the movie is geared to be viewed by women. Examples: 27 dresses, P.S. i love you, the notebook, nanny diaries, legally blonde ....ect. Wikipedia does an admirable job of defining a chick flick (see below). To me it would generally encompass mass-market romantic comedies with your typical storyline of "A and B intitally hate each other but eventually end up together" or "A and B are perfect for each other but for whatever reason are kept apart, only to get together at the end".
Nothing wrong with watching them; every so often we need movies of the 'popcorn' genre. Still, I'd rather watch B-grade, mindlessly violent movies. This coming from a guy, of course. Haha.
