Classic rock bands what aren't relevant today?

And don't say The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple or bands like that or you need a boink on the head.

The classic rock bands known today are highly relevant and there is a reason they are so, but what are some rock bands from the 60's and 70's that are so bad that no band carries on their influence and they just faded away into history?
This probably takes a person who experienced the 60's and 70's (You know who I'm looking at!!!) but please do share some.

:0 )

Smiley: Who else can I be referring to?

Raine: How in the world is King Crimson nor relevant? They're one of the most influential progressive rock bands, many of the modern prog bands take after King Crimson. I'm not even gonna get stated on The Kinks and several other bands you listed.... (don't forget that Dave Davies was credited for the first hard rock riff, if that ain't relevant, I don't know what is...)

LOL...Sarah, are you referring to me? I'll be back with an answer after I change the hand grips on my walker.

*Edit...
My appologies for taking so long to answer this question properly. But seeing as I don't know very much about music, as somebody has pointed out, these things take time. Thank goodness I still think I'm funny!

I feel that the following bands/artists were quite popular in their day, but really had little or in some cases no influence/impact over other bands that followed, or to rock music in general. And if they did...it bordered on insignificance. Unfortunately this might just look like another list of obscure bands that nobody's ever heard of, but trust me...they were popular. For instance...Billy J Kramer was under management by Beatles manager Brian Epstein, and was plastered all over the radio during the 60's. But today if remembered at all, it's only as that English guy who sang Beatles covers.
Then we have The Creation...they were part of the British 'Mod' scene, verging on psychedelic rock. Their guitarist was the first person to ever bow an electric guitar, long before Jimmy Page. In fact, Jimmy would be the first to admit that it was Eddie Phillips that gave him the idea. But to most rock fans, this fact is unknown and has just faded away into rock history. Outside of that little hidden secret, The Creation really weren't anything special:

Mud
Royal Guardsmen
Honeybus
Moby Grape
Alvin Stardust
The Rubettes
Three Man Army
Sugar Loaf
Paper Lace
David Essex
The Ivy League
Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas
Zoot Money and the Big Roll Band
Greenslade
The Fraternity of Man
Blue Mink
Crown Heights Affair
Gilbert O'Sullivan
The Seeker's and The New Seeker's
The Real Thing
Jo Jo Gunne
Bay City Rollers
The Classic IV
Lieutenant Pigeon
Sylvia
Marmalade
Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich
Archies
Jonathan Richman And The Modern Lovers
Amen Corner
Ian Lloyd & the Stories
Fat Mattress
P.P. Arnold
The Creation (even though their guitarist was the first to bow an electric guitar, most are unaware...sadly forgotten.)

This is just a small list of classic bands/artists, that are for the most part...are highly irrelevant today.

Whoa Cat..The Byrds ain't relevant? Ever hear Tom Petty? No Byrds..No Petty. Also The Flying Burrito Brothers came from The Byrds and no Burrito Bros, no Eagles. So I'd have to say the Byrds are damn relevant.

Next Subect...Anyone that thinks The Doors have no relevance to Modern Music is missing something important, like a brain.

Finally, I'd have to agree pretty much with Silver's list.

Here are a few Bands and/or Artists I think have faded completely and have no relevance to today's Music. (Without getting too obscure. I could list about 500 seriously obscure Rock Bands that 99.5% of People would have never heard of here.)

The Dave Clark Five
The Monkees
Paul Revere & The Raiders
The Association
Gerry & The Pacemakers
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
The Quicksilver Messenger Service

*Edit*
Ladytron I would put Atomic Rooster more on the fence. They had some impact on the earliest stages of the development of Metal, and Metal flourishes today.

Damn Will, rest and get better Man.

Hi sarsar,
sorry to be answering this so late - was out of town for 5 days and I'm still catching up on Y!A.
Smiley just about covered the entire range of forgotten acts, but I thought of a few more that have all but vanished from the R&P world:
Fanny (first all-female band that was criminally underappreciated)
Redbone (the band, not Leon)
The Looking Glass
Osibisa
The Ad Libs
Edison Lighthouse
Blue Swede
The Tokens
American Breed
We Five
Orleans
Apollo 100
Los Bravos

Canned Heat
The Lemon Pipers
Iron Butterfly
The Boxtops
The Zombies
The Turtles

'Relevance' is largely irrelevant; in any art form its what you get out of it that counts. If you dig up some obscure act that seems dated and yet get some inspiration from it, then it is relevant to your thought experience.

(p.s. - King Crimson is one of my all-time faves and I still listen to them a lot - and I don't care how many people are listening to them these days)

(p.p.s. - actually come to think of it, Beethoven and Chopin are still 'relevant' today. If you want to go back even further then I would say that Plato and Aristotle are still 'relevant' today. Good art and good thinking is timeless.)

(p.p.p.s - Uuh Lara, Bob's still producing albums and they are worth a listen. Not that I want to try to 'convert' you or anything and you have every right not to like him if you want but perhaps give 'Modern Times' a try if you want to give him another shot. Oh forget it, I don't think you want to...)
