Classic rock bands what aren't relevant today?

My appologies for taking so long to answer this question properly. But seeing as I don't know very much about music, as somebody has pointed out, these things take time. Thank goodness I still think I'm funny!

I feel that the following bands/artists were quite popular in their day, but really had little or in some cases no influence/impact over other bands that followed, or to rock music in general. And if they did...it bordered on insignificance. Unfortunately this might just look like another list of obscure bands that nobody's ever heard of, but trust me...they were popular. For instance...Billy J Kramer was under management by Beatles manager Brian Epstein, and was plastered all over the radio during the 60's. But today if remembered at all, it's only as that English guy who sang Beatles covers.

Then we have The Creation...they were part of the British 'Mod' scene, verging on psychedelic rock. Their guitarist was the first person to ever bow an electric guitar, long before Jimmy Page. In fact, Jimmy would be the first to admit that it was Eddie Phillips that gave him the idea. But to most rock fans, this fact is unknown and has just faded away into rock history. Outside of that little hidden secret, The Creation really weren't anything special:

This is just a small list of classic bands/artists, that are for the most part...are highly irrelevant today.

Whoa Cat..The Byrds ain't relevant? Ever hear Tom Petty? No Byrds..No Petty. Also The Flying Burrito Brothers came from The Byrds and no Burrito Bros, no Eagles. So I'd have to say the Byrds are damn relevant.

Next Subect...Anyone that thinks The Doors have no relevance to Modern Music is missing something important, like a brain.

Finally, I'd have to agree pretty much with Silver's list.

Here are a few Bands and/or Artists I think have faded completely and have no relevance to today's Music. (Without getting too obscure. I could list about 500 seriously obscure Rock Bands that 99.5% of People would have never heard of here.)

'Relevance' is largely irrelevant; in any art form its what you get out of it that counts. If you dig up some obscure act that seems dated and yet get some inspiration from it, then it is relevant to your thought experience.

(p.s. - King Crimson is one of my all-time faves and I still listen to them a lot - and I don't care how many people are listening to them these days)

(p.p.s. - actually come to think of it, Beethoven and Chopin are still 'relevant' today. If you want to go back even further then I would say that Plato and Aristotle are still 'relevant' today. Good art and good thinking is timeless.)

(p.p.p.s - Uuh Lara, Bob's still producing albums and they are worth a listen. Not that I want to try to 'convert' you or anything and you have every right not to like him if you want but perhaps give 'Modern Times' a try if you want to give him another shot. Oh forget it, I don't think you want to...)

PS, anyone who thinks Bob Dylan isn't relevant is ridiculously stupid IMO.

Probably "The Byrds". A highly unoriginal "cover band" whose members didn't even write their own stuff, all they did was covering other musicians' songs, notably Bob Dylan. And for some unknown reasons, they were considered legends.

I don't see how this band is relevant today.
