Hey, well I want my tongue pierced, but need to know a few things.
When it is fully healed, can you take out the jewellry for work/school etc. without the hole closing up? Is it like an ear piercing when you can take out the jewellry for a few weeks then put it back in, or do you need to constantly wear the tongue jewellry?
How long does it take to heal/fully heal?
From looking at the bottom of my tongue it seems to be alot of veins and nerves, is this dangerous?
Please answer my questions, I want to know the answer to the first mainly!
Thanks!

How long you can leave a piercing out is different for each person. I have known people who can only leave them out for an hour or two, but I left mine out once for two months. There are also flat, flesh colored plastic studs you can use if you are worried about it being seen. The pain level is also different for each person, as is how much swelling at first and how long it stays swollen and how long it takes to heal. My sister and I got ours done the same day back in 2000. I sucked on ice chips before and after, she only did before. Neither of us had much pain, but I had almost no swelling and hers swelled so bad she couldn't eat solid foods for almost a week. She was able to change hers before I was- about 2 weeks for her, almost a month and a half for me. I don't know how long she has left hers out, but like I said, I went nearly 2 months without mine once. Yes, there are a lot of veins, and it can be dangerous to pierce because if it's not done correctly you can have excessive bleeding and infection. So whatever you do, make sure it's done by a professional at a clean and reputable shop. I hope that answers your questions.
First of all, it usually takes about 6-8 weeks for the piercing to be fully healed. I wouldnt reccomend taking out the jewelry until then, and when you do take it out, dont leave it out for more than an hour or so-at first. After about 6 months, I was able to take mine out for about 6 hours, but it was a little difficult to put back in. Your tongue is a muscle, so it heals very fast. I was in the Airforce when I had mine pierced for the first time, and no one knew I had it pierced, so my best reccommendation would be to learn to talk without showing the inside of your mouth. Last but not least, your tongue is made up of a tone of veins and nerves, and it can be very dangerous, but it is very rare that anything will happen. If they hit a major artery, it could kill you, but like I said, thats very rare. I have a vein through the center of my tongue that was pierced through, and it just caused me to bleed a lot, thats all. Most people dont have any problems. Hope this helps. Good luck!
i got my tongue pierced like a week ago, it does NOT hurt. The piercing slides right in, i promise. Afterwards you feel a little dumb because you dont know how to talk or move your tongue but you get used to it. The swelling makes you slurr a little but its not bad at all. its my 5th day and I am still somewhat swollen because I have a thick tongue to begin with. They also say the more far back the piercing is the more swelling and mine is pretty far back. I have not had a problem with it. Just be careful. I didnt eat for about the first 3-4 days but i just wasnt hungry. I had slurpees like crazy and chewed on ice and drink alot of water. Make sure you rinse with listerine (mixed with water) after everything you do. By the fourth day I was eating a small amounts of food slowly and Im talking better. I love smoking and drinking. I stopped for the first day and a half but then i just lit up a cigarrette and cracked open a beer. Like i siad its fine, just make sure you rinse.
i love my piercing. yeah, it was a little uncomfortable at first but it is sure as hell worth it. once it heals, you wont remember life without it.
Tongue jewellery can be taken out, but it depends on the person whether or not the hole will close up. It takes a minimum of 6 weeks to fully heal. Yes, tongue piercings are dangerous because if it is pierced in the wrong place, it can be fatal, also bacteria tends to accumulate on the tongue ring, which puts you at a higher risk for dental problems and gum disease.
it depends. Some people say that your tongue can close up in an hr... some say a couple of days. I took mine out for a night and it was still fine in the am... It depends on you,
It takes about a day for the swelling to go down and 15 minutes before it is no longer painful... and dont worry about the veins or anything. A true piercer and/or tattoo artist knows what they are doing...
