Very rare covers or recordings by famous bands?

Think you've found something other people would like to hear? Post a link here.

I've found Nirvana's cover of the song "Here She Comes Now" by the Velvet Underground off of the album White Light/White Heat, and am so excited I thought I'd share it. It's fantastic, every bit as good as the original, and I never thought I'd hear it. It's something every Nirvana fan should hear, but a double bonus for people like me who are huge fans of both Nirvana and the Velvet Underground.

Just hit play next to "Here She Comes Now"

Hi Dan,
Not sure I have anything to contribute, but I'll think about it tonight. Either way, I look forward to seeing what people leave. Thanks!

Let's see. At the mercy of Youtube:
Pavement covering Echo and the Bunnymen for some Matador comp. The Killing Moon

Doug Martsch covering Heatmiser (Elliott Smith). Antonio Carlos Jobim

Elliott Smith covering Cat Stevens - Trouble

not so rare, but Elliott Smith - Because by the Beatles

I think this one may be bogus, but either way it's a pretty good version and it could quite possibly be Elliott Smith in a sort of Heatmiser-y state of mind covering Revolution by the Beatles.

Hi Mr. Bernstein.
Thanks a lot. I really, really enjoy that Tori Amos Zeppelin cover.

Not that this is new information, but I love the fact that I'm not alone in placing Elliott Smith in the kind of company of the greats of our time. Unfortunately incredibly unsung. I'm sure you've heard it, but he does a fine Jealous Guy as well.

I dug the Sara tune. I haven't heard that one that I can remember. I liked it a lot.
Have you heard the Arm of Roger? Grandaddy's really weird sort of we hate our record label/sideproject thing? It's not something I really listen to, aside from the first track which is really, really nifty (Robot Escort). It gets kind of obnoxious, but has a weird charm to it.

I actually heard that song years ago before I started listening to The Velvet Underground!

Led Zeppelin - Hey Joe [It's so good!]
http://youtube.com/watch?v=f-Bt4MPp-bo

And Beck doing a cover of a Carter Family song, 'Girl Of My Dreams' - Unfortunately I can't find it online, but it's really good.

Oh yeah, Blind Melon & Pearl Jam doing Breathe by Pink Floyd - which I can't find either!! Dammit!

And Velvet Revolver's cover of Roadhouse Blues - http://youtube.com/watch?v=GmLAaLg_iKQ&feature=related

Nirvana have done a million fractional covers, even The End! Here She Comes Now is one of the rare covers they do well, in my opinion.

:)

Nice find, Dan. Never heard that one before! Great sound all the way through and a nice Nirvana touch at the end.

Tori Amos covering Led Zeppelin

Grandaddy - Sarah (not a cover but a rarity) there's a cooler longer version of this song...

The is a Flaming Lips cover (I misplaced it somewhere) in three movements:
1st movement cover of "If I Only Had a Brain" (Wizard of Oz)
2nd movemnt: cover of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond"
3rd movement: cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". In this cover they loop Judy Garland's sound bite saying "Why" over and over in a circular rhythm throughout the song.

Nice choices, Prof. Like the way Pavement covered the song in their unique way.

Elliot Smith was quite a Beatles fan with all those covers of the Beatles. In Because he showed to be up to their standards, definitetly.

Not really rare but less known to people who don't listen to the non album stuff.

Smashing Pumpkins-There it Goes

Billy's voice is very different, but still really good.

Smashing Pumpkins- Set the Ray to Jerry

A Siamese Dream b-side. Should have made the album. It's one of their best songs.
