Not that this is new information, but I love the fact that I'm not alone in placing Elliott Smith in the kind of company of the greats of our time. Unfortunately incredibly unsung. I'm sure you've heard it, but he does a fine Jealous Guy as well.

I dug the Sara tune. I haven't heard that one that I can remember. I liked it a lot.

Have you heard the Arm of Roger? Grandaddy's really weird sort of we hate our record label/sideproject thing? It's not something I really listen to, aside from the first track which is really, really nifty (Robot Escort). It gets kind of obnoxious, but has a weird charm to it.

Nirvana have done a million fractional covers, even The End! Here She Comes Now is one of the rare covers they do well, in my opinion.

The is a Flaming Lips cover (I misplaced it somewhere) in three movements:

1st movement cover of "If I Only Had a Brain" (Wizard of Oz)

2nd movemnt: cover of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond"

3rd movement: cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". In this cover they loop Judy Garland's sound bite saying "Why" over and over in a circular rhythm throughout the song.

Elliot Smith was quite a Beatles fan with all those covers of the Beatles. In Because he showed to be up to their standards, definitetly.

Not really rare but less known to people who don't listen to the non album stuff.

joy division and the killers did a cover from a group called warsaw. the name of the song is "shawdow play" which was released by warsaw in 1979.

There's something to be said for any band that can cover the worst song ever recorded and make it entertaining.
