Christians, I don't understand...?

Why you choose to worship a god that commands the murder of infants?

No matter what Babylon did to the Israelites, why should the Jews have been "happy" to break the heads of children open on the banks of the Euphrates?

I'm quite sure I'm understanding this passage perfectly in context-- if not, please be specific in explaining why I'm not. What about this god is attractive to you?
------------------------------------------------------

Happy shall he be that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. Happy shall he be that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

(Ps. 137:9)

I'm not selectively quoting the bible, it's loaded with stuff like this.

First Poster: I'm not sure if you're joking, but that's hilarious.

Seriously Christians, it's your Bible, not mine. How do you expect people to accept it as truth if you can't explain it?

Somebody: No sane reader of the Old Testament could say that god doesn't condone violence. And again, please explain how I'm taking this out of context.

If you dont believe then dont believe. Thats your choice. Why do people believe in religions that teach hate and murder. Again thats their choice. If you dont want to believe in God then Ok. We have been given our own will to do as we please on this earth. Nobody should put a gun to your head to believe in christianity, not even God does that. So dont put on others a question of doubt because of something you are having a hard time with.

Not being mean to you and this doesnt upset me because we all have trouble even I with things, questions that I havent had answered. With me I just believe dispite what things I have questioned about.

God bless and I hope your answer will be understood soon.

Now YOU answer a question for US:

If you are so obsessed with the Bible, why don't you READ it for yourself, instead of just picking through it looking for the "good parts"? The only people on here who will take your rant seriously are those who are just as ignorant of the Bible as you are. I'm assuming you're smarter than that.

This isn't from God, this is from the writer of Ps. 137. It's taken out of context. This chapter is about group of people broken and in pain after the Babylonians destroyed their temple. Of course the writer was upset about this. So he says he (the writer, not God) rewards anyone who would get back at the Babylonians, who would kill their children in revenge. This is his opinion. God doesn't condone violence, in fact he claims vengeance only for himself. "Vengeance is mine sayeth the lord".

No you don't

You have take this scripture out of context.

The Psalms in chapter 37 is Isarel crying to GOD because they are captives in Babylon.

They sit down on the rivers and cry as they remember their home Land.

Israel is in sorrow because of the oppression they face.
It is Israel crying out to GOD to give back to babylon what babylon did to them.

Verse 9 you use says
Psa 137:8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
Psa 137:9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

they ask GOD to judge babylon and happy will he be that the person who destroy's babylon as they have destroyed Israel.

Happy shall the person be if they dash the little ones against the stone in retaliation for what babylon has done to Israel.

It was a poem of the heart ache of israel of what babylon did to them and in asking GOD to bring the same vegence on babylon as Israel was treated.

Of course it was out of context. God was not giving a command here Israel was asking GOD for vegence against those who were oppressing them.

GOD is a just GOD.
He does punish the wicked.
