Purple stain on linoleum floor - Help!!?

Question

I had a linoleum (rolled sheet, not individual peel and stick) installed in my kitchen and bathroom about three years ago.  The previous floor covering was completely removed, but I have no idea what prep was done prior to the installer laying the new floor covering. Several months ago, I noticed a purplish stain near my dishwasher.  A few weeks later, I noticed a similar stain behind the toilet in the bathroom (the kitchen wall where the dishwasher is shares a wall with the tub, toilet, and sink in the bathroom). I don't know what the stain is.  I have tried scrubbing it with Comet, I have tried hot soapy water.  I can't get the stain to remove AND it seems as though it is GROWING which leads me to believe it might be mildew or even mold.  The stain looks like spilled grape soda or something on the floor, but, like I said, it has grown (and I have no one living in the house with me so I know nothing has been spillled on it).  Realistic suggestions on removing stain PLEASE.

I can tell you I know nothing about 'points' in here since this is the first time I have answered anything in any website.  I only do it now because I am going through the same thing in my apartment and found this while googling for answers. (Management is lying because they are  worried I will bring in environmental company). It's MOLD. The first time I had about a 2 foot long/ 2 inch wide stain, (looked like grape juice spilled and ran about 2 feet), when it got to the point they finally, after a great deal of me complaining, replaced it. They pulled up the living room first, (same rolled sheet material of linoleum only thin and cheap), my entire living room underneath was covered in black mold. It didn't show except in that one spot. Which is now the same spot I'm dealing with now. No way to rid yourself of the stain except  replace the floor...... IMPORTANT STEPS HERE BUDDY... REMOVE, BLEACH, KILZ AND BE SURE THERE IS NO LEAK, (moisture got there somehow and grew)  I hope this is helpful, I just left a meeting over the same bloody thing and venting here sure helped me. It sounds as if the dye from your rug has leached into the linoleum. If this is the case then there's nothing that can be done other than keep using bleach to see of some of the staining can be removed. At best this will only remove some of the staining but you probably won't see any noticable improvement. To prevent it happening again you could wash the rug and try applying a color-fixing agent to stop the color running. Similar problems can occur if a rug is placed on a carpet and something is spilled on the rug - the color from the rug dyes the carpet underneath. Gold and dark colors (especially reds) are the worst for this.

Hmmm... I used to live in an apartment that developed a similar "growing stain" although it was not purple. It turned out to be some kind of mold because of coming in contact with some moisture at some point.  I would say that the installer may have made an error.  You may have to repace it!  That's a bummer!
