I have a lab/chow mix she is about ninety pounds. The problem is most likely she is overeating. Animals eat when food is available, not always because they are hungry. I suggest that you cut back on the amount of food you are feeding him and see if his energy level increases.

I have a golden retriever. She is fed on Hill's Light (because she has issues with her weight). She has about one cup of food, twice a day (one in the morning, one in the evening).
This seems to be quite enough for her, and she is a fairly big-boned dog.
What do you mean by 'home food' - if you mean like the food that you eat, your dog may be being over-fed, and some of the foods we eat are not good for dogs to eat and may cause more harm than good.
you should also make sure your dog is not getting too many treats.

If you are concerned, weigh your dog, and see whether it is within its ideal weight range (your vet is most probably the best person to help with this as it is a crossbreed). This should help you figure out whether the dog is being overfed or underfed (once again ask your vet about this if you are still worried).

hope this helps.

First post is right. Dogs eat anything that they consider food. They never seem full. But your kinda over-feeding them. to keep them on a good diet buy dog food or if you want to make something special once in a while. Make NON CHOCOLATE food like errr spagetii with some doggy treats sounds nice. but it has to be about a litte less than half of what regular humans eat. good luck :)

I have a golden retriever and we feed her 2 cups dry in a.m. and 2 in p.m.. She is healthy and very active. She always acts like she is starving but her vet says she is perfect.
Ask your vet.
We also give her plenty of chew toys. There's a treat that is hollow and you can fill with peanut butter and that keeps her busy and satisfied. Get them at Petco.
Good luck! Give him a hug from me.

A dog that size need a big bowl of dog food a day and home cooked food is bad for dogs unless you have a book for dogs and recipes read on the back of the dog food bag and a water at all times
