When a parachute is openned,it comes to a constant speed,I think the cars must have a similar limitations on their speed,but How?We did a problem in class in 1972 during the energy crisis when they decreased the speed limit from 70mile/Hr to 55 in Illinois.But I have forgotten.Can a physics professor help me?

Impossible to tell. Depends on the drag coefficient of the car. As a general rule of thumb, if you double your speed, you quadruple your fuel consumption. i.e. at 50mph your car does 16mpg, then at 100mph, you're doing 4mpg.
