Is "DANFENG" a good name ?

We buy products from China. Mainly communications is done via e-mail. We noticed that our Chinese suppliers had adapted Western names like Alyssa, Alice, Bill, ,,,,

I am thinking of using a Chinese name "Danfeng". Is this a good name ? What does this name mean among Chinese ?

Thank you.

I don't think it's necessary. People in China adopt western names mainly to ease communications with Westerners. It's nice for u to try to reciprocate it. But unfortunately it doesn't work this way. Many Chinese characters have same pronunciations and spellings in English. So unless u actually use Chinese characters, the English spellings may actually add confusion to your Chinese suppliers. Plus in China, people usually don't address each other in first names. It is sort of ok to use Western first names. But it is weird to address each other in Chinese first names such as Danfeng. It sounds gay. (No offense to gay people).
Chinese names only help communications in Chinese. All the US ambassadors to China have Chinese names. They are referred to in their Chinese names in Chinese-language newspapers. But in English reports, no one uses their English translation of their Chinese Names.
As I said, there are many Chinese characters with same English spellings. So it is difficult to say what "danfeng" means without seeing their Chinese characters. One girl above mentioned it's her Chinese name. Those characters mean Red (丹) Maple (枫). It seems neutral. But you see it can actually be a girl's name. LOL. But to be fair, i think this is also the name of the main charater in one famous Chinese martial arts fiction. His name is 张丹枫 (zhang danfeng)

You have to give us a little more info on the name. Specifically what tone and characters do you intend to use?

For instance:
蛋丰 dan4 feng2 could be construed as a stupid egg.
丹凤 dan1feng4 is a county in China.

Usually a Chinese name will have three characters, the first being your family name, the others being your "first" name.
I would recommend talking to your friends from China, they will more than likely be happy to help you. I can't tell you how many times my Chinese friends have had me give them English names. I had a trusted teacher give me mine, since at the time, I couldn't speak any Chinese.

Danfeng is not a very common name in Chinese, and to pronounce it correctly is tough,so if you want to use a Chinese name, some common names may be better.

I think your idea is good, but I don't like Danfeng. "Dan! Feng...What the hell are you doin'?!!!" Or, "You dumb f**k Danfeng." Also sounds like a Star Trek Voyager name. What about all those Chinese names that start with "Xhi"? Call yourself a panda bear name or something lol.

But that's just me runnin' my fat trap. See what your other answerers say.
