Why do you think Heath Ledger had to resort to prescription

pills rather than have friends and/or family to turn to?

Great question. One that many people probably ask either themselves or is asked by their family or friends.
My response: A possibility is that maybe he didn't feel that he could turn to others for help. Trying to hide his feelings and be a strong person who doesn't have a weakness in any area of life. Sometimes PRIDE is the cause of many people to turn to drug, alcohol or various other addictions to cover their true feelings.
It's a very sad that his life ended so quickly. He was very talented and I do see an award honoring his role in "Batman".
An additional thought....coming from a personal level..... sometimes as friends/family we need to be more aware of what is going on in someones life before something as such happens to a loved one. Keep in touch and don't be afraid to ask questions if you see a change in someone OR if you yourself starts to turn to an addiction, swallow that pride and seek help.
Again; GREAT QUESTION.

Well..... some of the pills he took were for insomnia, what can you talk to your friends and family about not being able to sleep?? I think people should stop over analysing why he died, how he died, what if this or that...

Became very depressive. Ever since his break up with Michelle, the paparazzi attacking him, and even his Australian 'mates' not liking him, I guess it was too much for him to handle.

He had trouble sleeping and had anxiety problems. He also hurt his back so he took sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medicine, and painkillers.

It was a tough time for him.
He had to deal with splitting up with his wife (maybe it was his girlfriend. I don't know.)
But they did have a child. It was just hard to deal with.
He was also always busy with filming.
