August 10, 2008, Issac Hayes' wife found him unresponsive on the floor next to a treadmill, which was still running, inside his home located just east of Memphis, Tennessee. A Shelby County, Tennessee sheriff's deputy responded to Hayes' home. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, where he was pronounced dead at 2:08 pm, at the age of 65. The cause of death was not immediately known. What fond memories do you have of him.

Saddened. Grew up on Hayes as a preschooler in the 1970's. I remember watching Wattstax some time ago and seing him appear with the "Shaft" theme playing. The crowd went wild. He then took off his cape and you see this iconic man with chains all over. He was the epitome of a handsome black man; sure of himself, culture, and his society. He was a brilliant musician and strayed from the norm; here is this man who is a brown version of Mr. Clean (at the time folks were wearing afros, down with black power, and writing political tunes) who laid down rap with jazz tunes, spoken word with elegance. His brand of music was just a tad over-the-top; however, were masterpieces. He may have not have been the 70's spokesperson for Black power; however, he didn't need to. His sheer presence symbolized his intelligence and pride
Eventhough, he's known for more than for the soundtrack for "Shaft", there's a fond memory of me listening to that soundtrack while watching the christmas tree lights flicker on and off. R.I.P. Issac Hayes and Bernie Mac :}
I had the pleasure of seeing Isaac Hayes live. What a show that was. I will miss his smooth and mellow sound. Heaven has all the talent. Marvin, Barry, Gerald, Luther, Sam(Cooke), Otis, and now Isaac. What a time my mom is having now! RIP to Isaac. May God give his family some semblance of peace.
