Why is Yahoo not fixing their poor quality spelling checker?

There's a fancy new spelling checker that pops up speech bubbles with comments like, "Hmmm... it looks like you have too much punctuation"
or
"Oops! It looks like you have 1 misspelling(s)" and offers to open the spell checker.

The flaw is that it pops up this speech bubble when you put in NORMAL, PROPER punctuation!!! And often, when it claims you have 1 or more misspellings, there are no words underlined in red in the text box, which is supposed to happen when there's a misspelling.

It's not actually the spell checker that is doing this. It's the initial "warning system" they put up to make sure they tell you something may be wrong with your message. I don't know what they call it, but it's flawed.

Yahoo has decided to use limited canned systems on YA and they don't work very well. The sort, search, advanced search, spelling and many other systems are third rate and they have no interest in improving them. The fact they have no way to update the spellcheck dictionary themselves proves this.

Automated spell/grammer checks are always biased. Some selectivity is often available, but idiom is widely variable and the manner of speech used may be exactly right for the person speaking, but appear otherwise to someone in a different country, or even at a different or distant locale within the same country.

If it really bothers you than why not try an alternative that guarantees you to will post what you want, every time.

Keep two windows open, one for Answers and the other a word processor. You could then set your own spelling and grammar standards in your word processor, write your comments, then copy and paste them into Answers.

Yahoo! Answers already has a spell checker. Yes, it can be annoying at times. But, hey. It's better than the other spell checker.

It's rubbish and I hate it.
It tells lies. There's nothing wrong with my spelling...I'm just English :)

But yeah even when all my spelling and punctuation is correct and there are no underlined words, it still makes things up.
