Why do YOU answer in the Fish section?

After spending about a year and a half on this site answering fish questions, I have seen quite a few answerers come and go. Some good, some bad. Some I wish I would have gotten to talk to more, some I regret talking to at all. How did YOU find Yahoo! Answers? What drew YOU to the Fish section? And why do YOU continue to answer in the Fish section?

I'd like everybody to post a link to their first answer in the fish section... time for some nostalgia!

Here was my first answer... so long ago! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Apseea95fAStNQnNlDjEedrty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20070525214357AAsf3TO&show=7#profile-info-vuNd0pnUaa

Look at that! You can see most of what's wrong with Yahoo! Answers in this question alone! How could you possibly give a thumn down to an answer here unless it entirely ignored the question (which weren't the answers that got thumbs down)? I'd like to think that I could be just as "successful" in other sections--Words & Wordplay, Baseball, etc.-- but choose the Fish section because I want to help people. However, I'm guessing if anybody who answers in this site REALLY thought about it, they'd see they're here for points, or "Best Answers", or a higher "Best Answer" percentage. I'm not gonna pretend that I don't enjoy getting an email from Yahoo! telling me I just got 10 points (woo hoo?), though I will admit that it's generally because I see the asker didn't pick some of the stupid answers that get posted...

Uhm, it was because I was super bored and someone told me about this site. It is addicting helping people especially if you have a lot of knowledge on the subject.
I do get tired of the same questions over and over. You know this soup, but I can use the same 5 automated answers to 98% for the fish section.
1. Check your water parameters....etc
2. No a goldfish can't fit in a 1g bowl....etc
3. Don't try breeding bettas, its not worth it unless your pro... etc
4. Dead fish ? Check your parameters. Did I say check your parameters yet ? Check em !!!
5. Overstocked nah... add more. 1 inch per gallon is correct ! Your so smart... etc with more sarcasm

Try them, they really do work.
But, the real questions are fun and you learn a lot about things you don't know about.

I actually do not answer in the fish section very often unless I have a small idea of what I am talking about. I am new to fish so I seem to ask a lot of questions as the internet confuses me by giving multiple answers that seem to contradict each other. I do answer items that I have been through though hoping to help someone else out as I was helped.
Yahoo answers has been good to me as I get a variety of answers and choices that lets me try and experiment new things. I am a perfectionist and try to do everything right but with fish tanks that is not always possible and patience is the key. Thanks for all your answers nosoup

My first answer was the one that talked about petsmart.....

I found Answers by googling something else one day. Every now and then, when I have some time, but not enough to do much, I hop on (it's this or another game of Minesweeper). I spend more time in Religion and Spirituality, but the questions there come a lot faster.

I came to Fish in a circuitous route. My wife was pregnant with a little girl, due to deliver in March. Unfortunately, we lost the baby to pre-eclampsia at 35 weeks.

Afterwards, we had quite a bit of money saved, plus we received donations from friends, family and co-workers. On top of the that, our tax refund came in, and we knew the stimulus checks would be following shortly. We were loaded with cash. My wife was already considering her first aquarium as it was, and so I helped her set up a small freshwater tank. Because I had had freshwater fish growing up, I decided to try my hand at marine. After months of study and having my tank running smoothly, I began answering questions here during lulls in the other sections I check regularly.

First answer in Fish might be this one:

I got into the on-line thing well after I go into fish keeping almost by accident just surfing around. That was about two months ago and I have been here trying to help people and stop people from getting bad advice ever since. Plus you can learn ( mostly just how dumb some people are ) allot too. I always find your answers to be very informative nazi, your one of the good ones.
