If he eats dry food, you might want to give him canned food because canned food softens their bowels, if he's already eating canned food, you might want to change the brand. But it's important anytime you change a dog's food to MIX the two different brands at first to accustom your dog's stomach to it, otherwise it could make him sick.

If that's not the problem, has your dog been dewormed recently? Worms cause constipation or diarrhea amond other more serious problems.

If this is also not the cause, and it's just a simple case of constipation, your best bet is to give him a couple tsb of prune juice or steam some veggies. Both of those work wonders on dogs and are actually healthy tips to practice on a regular basis, especially if your dog develops a history of constipation.

Be sure to only use a very small amount of prune juice, depending on the dogs weight, since dogs dehydrate easier than humans. But prune juice is healthy for him if used correctly.

Hope this helped.

For how long is he constipating? He may look fine but if it lasts for more than five days, then it's time to see a vet. If not, there's nothing to worry about because usually the body can work the problem out by itself. You can also try adding fiber to his food or try the old remedy of putting mineral oil to his food to help lubricate his colon. To know more on treating constipation, follow this link..

when my dogs are constipated i give 2 tbsp of canned pumpkin (NOT pie filling, but canned pumkin)

you can also give pepto bismol, look on google for dosage for your dogs weight.

If he hasnt gone at all for a total of two days, get him into the vet it could be a blockage which has the possibility of being fatal.
