Or is that what personal time is for? We should not accommodate Muslims in my opinion any more than we should accommodate other religions. That is what personal time is for.

Wow. Few things. Muslims the way I understood it need to make time for prayer 5 times in day before sunset? Not sure the accuracy of that but assuming it is correct, could the not pray before and after work, once on each legal break and once on lunch? That is 5 times and not once would it disrupt productivity. Prayer is up to the person having faith. It is their CHOICE to follow faith. Since it is a CHOICE, they need to find work that accommodates their CHOICE, not dictate to employers a demand of being able to pray on company time. Any break is fine, not while on the clock.

Zilla, do you think Muslims have a problem with a free paid day off for Christmas?

Mersonix, Medicine is a need, not a want like prayer. People CHOOSE prayer, not taking medicine.

That's up to the employer. It's a private business matter.
i am kind of torn on the question because a part of me agrees with what you said about prayer being on personal time. however prayer to god allah or whatever is a sacred thing and if you are working in a place where taking a ten minute break will not interfere with the work you are doing then i suppose it would be o.k. but as a muslim, which i am not, that is something you should probably consider when applying for a job. another factor is this- most if not all jobs give five to ten minute cigarette breaks throughout the day. if you were a sincere muslim you wouldn't be smoking cigs so that time could be allotted for prayer.
Absolutely. Just like you have a coffee break. If necessary, Muslims should make plans, in advance, to determine a proper way for them to prayer at work. It's part of their religion. That's like asking "Should you be allowed to take medicine at work?". Answer is yes. Muslims (at least relgiious ones) believe prayer should happen a set number of times a day, and they like to do that. Just like taking medicine, that should be allowed.
People need to stop caring about differences and religions.
I think if it's no big deal and doesn't take much time from their work then their religion should be respected. Like, if a muslim guy just wants two minutes a day for prayer time, sure let him have it! But if he wants like fifteen minutes or half an hour or something then I think in a christian-based society it would be unreasonable.
Personally, I feel that workplaces should offer prayer times for Muslims. I am Muslim, but it's not a Bias opinion just because it's my religion. The reasoning is because Muslims are required to pray 5 times a day and there are specific times set up for each prayer. For you to say, you should pray at your own time, a Muslim would be forced to pray the Prayer late and it would be a sin for him/her. Example, Afternoon prayer starts around 12-1ish (depending on the season) In Summer, it lasts upto around 6, but in winter it lasts up until about 3ish. So if the Muslim person's job ends at 5, he/she would have to miss a prayer and Praying 5 times a day and on time is one of the most important things in the Muslim religion.
