Should Muslims be allowed Prayer Time at work?
Or is that what personal time is for? We should not accommodate Muslims in my opinion any more than we should accommodate other religions. That is what personal time is for.
Wow. Few things. Muslims the way I understood it need to make time for prayer 5 times in day before sunset? Not sure the accuracy of that but assuming it is correct, could the not pray before and after work, once on each legal break and once on lunch? That is 5 times and not once would it disrupt productivity. Prayer is up to the person having faith. It is their CHOICE to follow faith. Since it is a CHOICE, they need to find work that accommodates their CHOICE, not dictate to employers a demand of being able to pray on company time. Any break is fine, not while on the clock.
Oh, and Jessica, you're an idiot.
Zilla, do you think Muslims have a problem with a free paid day off for Christmas?
Mersonix, Medicine is a need, not a want like prayer. People CHOOSE prayer, not taking medicine.

That's up to the employer. It's a private business matter.

i am kind of torn on the question because a part of me agrees with what you said about prayer being on personal time. however prayer to god allah or whatever is a sacred thing and if you are working in a place where taking a ten minute break will not interfere with the work you are doing then i suppose it would be o.k. but as a muslim, which i am not, that is something you should probably consider when applying for a job. another factor is this- most if not all jobs give five to ten minute cigarette breaks throughout the day. if you were a sincere muslim you wouldn't be smoking cigs so that time could be allotted for prayer.

Absolutely. Just like you have a coffee break. If necessary, Muslims should make plans, in advance, to determine a proper way for them to prayer at work. It's part of their religion. That's like asking "Should you be allowed to take medicine at work?". Answer is yes. Muslims (at least relgiious ones) believe prayer should happen a set number of times a day, and they like to do that. Just like taking medicine, that should be allowed.
People need to stop caring about differences and religions.
Now.

I think if it's no big deal and doesn't take much time from their work then their religion should be respected.
Like, if a muslim guy just wants two minutes a day for prayer time, sure let him have it! But if he wants like fifteen minutes or half an hour or something then I think in a christian-based society it would be unreasonable.

Personally, I feel that workplaces should offer prayer times for Muslims. I am Muslim, but it's not a Bias opinion just because it's my religion. The reasoning is because Muslims are required to pray 5 times a day and there are specific times set up for each prayer. For you to say, you should pray at your own time, a Muslim would be forced to pray the Prayer late and it would be a sin for him/her. Example, Afternoon prayer starts around 12-1ish (depending on the season) In Summer, it lasts upto around 6, but in winter it lasts up until about 3ish. So if the Muslim person's job ends at 5, he/she would have to miss a prayer and Praying 5 times a day and on time is one of the most important things in the Muslim religion.

Prayer time should be allowed to Muslims in their own countries. But internationally personal time is enough. Although if Muslims in foreign countries can persuade their bosses to allow them prayer time then it's fine. By the way I'm a Muslim.

Muslims accomodate other religion during the office time or at least they give them time to pray.Muslims must not be treated like this every body must give them time to pray. Some people are fools, stupids, bloody enuch who tells "they are in our country they must follow our rules" let me tell them thats not your fathers country every body has the right to live right to talk and freedom. You people just go and have a look at some muslim countries that how we treat you.USA takes trillions of money from Arab and uses in weapons infrastructure and when some Arab country tryies to make nuclear for their development then USA ATTACKS but there will be no answer from the UN

Yes we should, they shouldn't get paid for it, but you can't make someone not prey if its in their religion to do so. We aren't slave masters, and personally i think employers are getting to greedy as it is, we need more care for families, and people as employees as well as the customer.
People used to help others and care for each other, what happened to that?
EDIT: Funny to see how many people on here judge Muslims on their beliefs... Not ALL muslims wish for Americans to die, stop stereotyping them. I'm christian and i see no problem with prayer time, it takes like ten minutes max, and as long as they aren't getting paid for it what is the big deal?
Thats right, people like to stick their nose in other peoples lives and control what we can and cannot do in some areas, because it offends you. We live in a ME culture throughout the entire planet and its sickening... this kind of reasoning is exactly why i wanna move to a remote island and be a hermit.
Source(s): And before you all go and judge me, i was a United States Marine. My friends were shot, and attacked by our muslim enemies, i think if THEY can realize that that all muslims aren't the same, civilians can do the same. - Anonymous1 decade ago
They accomodate us in their countries.
A real Christian would accomodate them also. We should welcome them. This is what Jesus taught.
EDIT: Muslims pray 5 times a day, however the times vary from Sunrise to night (not sunset). So if working an 8 to 5 job, they may need 2 prayers completed during that time.
Im a Christian, but been to Lebanon and Jordan, and the freedom Christians recieve in practicing their religion in Muslim countries is astounding, considering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. If they allow us, then why shouldnt we?

Then again should we build places for them to perform WUDU - religious washing
Because they need to wash before praying
Like they did in one of the american airports - Indianapolis International Airport
Well finally the answer is NO - if they are too religious they should work in countries which allow all these

Yes they should. If my Christians employee's get a day off to celebrate the birth of a baby. (stupid laws) I fail to see why my other employee's should not get time for there religious beliefs.
However I am not paying anyone for it. Be it praising a zombie being born or someone being a compass that points at a city.
Work = Money
Religious excuses = no work thus = No money.
