Easiest way to: VHS home movies to Hard Drive? ?

I'm pretty good with computers, but I have very little knowledge with video handling.

How would I go about transfering old VHS home movies to my computer for editing? Are there any good/free video editing software available.

I just want to make a small video collage on DVD, and quality isn't that important.

Sadly, "good" and "free" rarely go together!

You'll need to start with the hardware - have a look at analog / digital converters like the Pinnacle Dazzle or the Kworld DVD Maker. A lot of electronics retailers have their own versions of these - mostly cheaper than the Pinnacle product. They mostly come with some software, but the quality's questionable - if it's not good enough, have a look at the AVS Video Editor.

Send your tapes to stashspace an internet company based in Winthrop WA and they will digitize your tapes for $7 tape. They have a free video editing software and will send you back your tapes digitized on a dataDVD or portable hard drive. Or they will host your tapes online and you can use their free online editor to create dvds. Check them out at http://www.stashspace.com

confident you will desire particular utility and a capture gadget to connect from the VHS to computing gadget or VHS to DVD from the small screen television. i exploit the Dazzle gadget for my computing gadget. you could burn to CD if the action picture is below 800 Mb yet whilst greater effective you will desire a DVD burner
