Please help! My adorable English Bulldog puppy has been eating his poop. He is even trying to eat other dogs poop when I walk him. This is making me insane at this point. This morning when I went to take him out of his crate there was poop residue in there but the poop was gone. I hear that there is a product that I can use in his food (I don't know the name of it) to make the poop even more hideous that he wont eat it. He is being fed enough and walked about 6x daily. HELP!!!

One big reason why dogs eat there own poop is because they eat their food to quickly. This then does not give the food enough time to settle and digest before exiting the dog. In other words whats coming out still smells and tastes as it does going in, also since it is not probably digested he is loosing all the nutrients.
There are special food bowls designed to slow down a dogs eating. If not put large rock in the food bowl (one a dog cant swallow) to help slow him down.
If slowing down his eating still isn't curing the problem your vet probably has a product called Forbid. This causes their fecal material to taste very bitter.
pineapple. just give small amount at each meal for a while. it changes something and the dog does no longer like the taste. it is the most simple effective thing..and the cheapest. just go buy a can .
but then you do need to see if he is getting the right nutrition from his food. this may be the reason he eats poo in the first place.
1) You feed a low quality food like Pedigree/Purina/Alpo, etc which causes an extreme lack of nutrients in the dogs digestive system.
2) He watched his mother cleaning her whelping box when he was a puppy, and its a learned behavior. This usually occurs when bad breeders don't keep a clean environment for puppies.
To stop your dog from eating his OWN feces, feed him a higher quality food such as Canidae, Nutro, Wellness, or Blue Buffalo. After each meal, feed him ONE small triangle of pineapple- it makes his feces taste and smell unappealing.
To stop your dog from eating other dogs' feces is a whole other story. When you walk past poo and he sees and IGNORES it, give a treat and lavish praise. Invest in an air-blaster (like those used to clean dust out of crevices of keyboards and such- you can find them at any supermarket). When he goes to eat the poo, spray it next to his face- it'll startle him and eventually he'll associate eating feces with a blast of air, and being startled.
I tried everything and nothing worked except training and watching my pup constantly. They get over eating it after a few months. Poop can have Parvo, parasites and bacterias if he is eating other dog poop.
Get to the poop before he does and clean it up. Sometimes I think it is animal instinct . Don't give him to much room in the crate. Make sure you are taking him out.
