Who added the pork to the "Economic Bailout Package"? ?
Where can I find a list of "Yea and Nye" votes on the above mentioned bill/law for both first and second votes? I am interested to see who changed their positions. More importantly, I am interested to find out whom is responsible for adding in the unnecessary special interest tax welfare or "pork barrel spending"? I am planning to write my representatives, and want to know how they voted both times, and if they were responsible for any of the waste. I intend to tell them that I am mad as hell and I'm not going to vote for them anymore! I hope that someone will audit the members of Congress, Senate and other Government agencies to assure they did not sell the stock market short and personally profit from the initial non passage of the bailout plan!
Not sure which individual added this nonsense to and already horrible bill. But since the revised bill started in the Senate, look at thos who voted yes to begin your research.
HR 1424. The original short title was "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008". It was then tacked on to the " Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act of 2007" as an ammendment. That created the following monster:
"To amend section 712 of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, section 2705 of the Public Health Service Act, section 9812 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to require equity in the provision of mental health and substance related disorder benefits under group health plans, to prohibit discrimination on the basis of genetic information with respect to health insurance and employment, and other purposes".
I know that sounds absolutely nothing like what it is. Welcome to congress. Sure enough, though, page down a couple times and the EESA is right there.
I link directly to the bill's voting record as my source, but a good source for voting records in general is http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/
Here's the original 451 page bill (containing the original 110 page document and ammendments to to other acts) http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:H.R.1424:
