Favorite Answer

3x/4 + 1/6 = 2
(3/4)x + 1/6 = 2 --->add -1/6 to both sides to get the x term alone

(3/4)x + 1/6 + -1/6 = 2 + -1/6 --->use common denominators to add 2 + -1/6
(3/4)x = 12/6 + -1/6
(3/4)x = 11/6

--->multiply both sides by 4/3 to get x alone:
(3/4)x * (4/3) = (11/6) * (4/3) --->just re-writing the fractions:

3*4............11*4
---- * x = ------
4*3........... 6*3

x = 44/18 --->change to mixed number

x = 2 8/18 --->reduce fraction to lowest terms

x = 2 4/9

Is your question
-3x/4 + 1/6 = 2 OR
3x/4 + 1/6 = 2 ? Is there a negative sign in front of the 3x/4?

I did a -ve one below

First, move the unknown to the left of the = and the numbers to the right, remembering to change the signs.

-3x/4 +1/6 = 2
-3x/4 = 2 - 1/6
-3x/4 = 12/6 - 1/6 --> change the 2 into fraction with denominator 6
-3x/4 = 11/6
x = 11/6 divide -3/4
x = 11/6 times - 4/3
x = - 44/18
= - 2 8/18
= - 2 4/9

..The question doesn't make sence

(3x/4) = 1/6 AND equals to 2?
