Do a search for Angry Young Men, young authors like Alan Sillitoe who had served through the war, their subjects are often class, provinciality, gritty drama, often featuring unattractive heroes (anti-hero). Also look at George Orwell whose two best known works Nineteen Eighty Four and Animal Farm were both published after the Second World War.
There is a definite swing towards radicalism (both to the left and right) in the subject and manner of writing.
