OK, the Phillies won the series - but which team is really the best, and why?

Pretty self-explanatory - make your case! : )

A lot of people figured this out as a trap question, it seems.

Well, before each series, I heard that the Brewers, Dodgers and Rays would all feast on the Phillies pitchers other than Hamels. Only Manny managed do hit them with any consistency. Other than that, the big guns were mostly silenced by the Phillies pitchers (Hamels and otherwise) The Phillies bullpen was like a sedative - everyone with a bat went to sleep.

If the Sox pitchers were so good, they would have shut down the Rays. If their hitters were so good, they would have beaten up the Rays pitchers, which they failed to do. There was no reason to think that they would have hit the Phillies. Longoria and Pena were supposed to be able to hit the Phillies but got next to nothing.

So trying to make a case for the Sox being the best team is just silly.

The good thing is, they can try again next year, but this year, the Phillies are the best!!

Ha! Maybe you could blame the umps if the series had not been won, four games to one! : D

13-3 down the stretch, then 3-1 over the Brewers, 4-1 over the Dodgers, and finally 4-1 over the Rays.

Red Wing, read the question and all my comments again - and note who was picked the winner. I walked in the parade yesterday, and I walked in the Sixers parade 25 years ago, and the Phillies last one, 28 years ago. All respect to the Phillies, I wanted to see who would be silly enough to argue that anyone besides the Phillies was the best team.

The best team was the Phillies, its not the best team over 162 games. Its the best team over 162 and the playoffs. The Rays had accomplished a lot this season but they came up short right at the end. The Sox should have beat the Rays but they couldn't hit with guys in scoring position. The Angels couldn't do again against the Red Sox, I think its a mental issue with them. And the White Sox just had too many injuries.

In the NL the Brewers had been an inconsistent team all year long and it showed in the playoffs. They didn't come to play in the series.

The Cubs just made errors and they didn't come to play at all and the Dodgers heat just ran out of gas. The Phillies did the right things all playoffs long. They pitched good and they had timely hitting. They were the best team for 162 games and playoffs.

The Phillies. This team not only won it all, but they had the best starting rotation in the National League. Cole Hamels finished the season with a career high 196 strikeouts, and Brad Lidge when a perfect 41 for 41 in save opportunities, not including his playoff saves. No one will ever come near this record, which is far more impressive than K rods save record, considering he blew more than 6 saves. Ryan Howard led major league baseball in home runs, with 49. Chase Utley finished the season batting over .310, Jason worth over .300, and Greg Dobbs, a bench player for the Phillies batted over .300. This team was almost out of it in mid September, but they never lost their cool, they showed great teamwork all year, for those of you who think the Rays are really the best, then why did they lose in just 5 games to the Phillies in the world series?

Each year, there's only one ring.
Each year, there's only one parade.
Each year, there's only one team that has the honor of calling themselves the World Champions of baseball. This year, it's the Phillies, and they deserve their moment in the sun!

The Phillies are clearly the best.

Nothing against the Rays, but coming from last to second doesn't give them the title of best team in baseball. Most improved? Most shocking? Absolutely! Best? Look for the one with the trophy. That's the Phillies, and everyone should recognize that. Go Phils!

Hey, man give credit to the team that won the World Series. I think you are degrading what the World Series is all about when you ask: "OK, the Phillies won the series, but which team is really the best, and why?" The Phillies won the World Series becaues they were the best, period.
