I recently bought a garmin GPS.  I know that you can buy maps to update it in the future but I have been told Tom tom has free downloads for the future.  Does any one know if this is true and or if Garmin has free downloads also?  
Best buy recommended the Garmin along with many reviewers but I know two people extremely happy with their tom tom.  They did not have any information on the future maps/downloads.  Any help would be great since I only have 30 days to return it.

In general, Tom Tom map updates are not free. It may be that they are free for a period of time, but I've paid for at least one, if not two, map updates on my Tom Tom over the past couple years.
