I have a Generation 5 IPOD?

My 30 gig IPOD's battery was running down last night. I turned it off. This morning, I plugged it into the AC wall socket charger. I hooked it up to some speakers and hit "Play" on some music. The unit froze and will not play, charge, or turn off. What happened? What is my next step? Is it cooked? And, let's say it is. Can I just buy a new one and plug in my songs on my computer? TIA

Resetting the Ipod WORKED!!! Thank goodness. It is now charging. I think I will wait until it's charged to see if it dumped the music I am a father of 2 boys. I really do not need to BUY a new Ipod. That was my last resort..

Try to do a hard reset, which is holding select and menu (i think). If those arent the right keys, then hold select and play. Look on the internet for other solutions. If you cant get it to work then, see if it is still under warranty. If it is, TAKE IT IN! I do know how to open ipods and fix most stuff wrong with them, but id rather have a professional do it for free any day.

-Forgot to mention: If you cant get it to work but your computer can recognize it, then open up folder IPOD, and trun on see hidden files. If you do a little snooping, there is a folder called music. If you dont have all of your music backed up, import the whole folder into you iTunes. Then you can just buy a new ipod if you really want to.

Yes you can buy a new one & use the same songs on a computer. I think it is probably time to upgrade from that. I am doing the same with my iPod 5G
