Does uploading a file to the internet affect download speed?
Say--I'm seeding (uploading) a file via a torrent client, will that affect (hinder) my download speed?
Thank You.

Please cite your sources--I'd like the answer to come from a reputable source, rather than yourselves.
Again, thanks!

There are two factors involved with upload. First, bittorrent is set up on a tit for tat basis, which means that other peers in the swarm will be more likely to send you data if your upload to them is high. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol)#Downloading_torrents_and_sharing_files
However, if upload is set too high, then there is no room for communications from your computer and this will slow downloads. http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Good_settings#How_to_determine_your_upload_speed
It is generally suggested to set upload in your bittorrent client to 80% of your overall upload capacity as this will allow room for communications and also allow a good amount of upload for reciprocation from other peers in the swarm. well your internet gives you say 1000kb for upload and download so if your uploading it shall hover around 1000kb depending on the torrent. then if you download a torrent at the same time they will share the 1000kb. if the torrent that your downloading has alot of seeds you may only upload at 250kb but download at 750kb.
no via torrents it actually helps it - the more your uploading the less it will be throttled and the faster the download will be - its setup this way to encourage people to share/seed
Yes! Anything that requires bandwidth will affect your download speed, However minute. The more uploads you have...the slower the download speed. And vice versa! d;o)
every operation you run on a computer can slow download speed. it is the use of memory that becomes limited which is linked with your RAM and internet speed provided by your server.
