Economic decline causes races to be canceled?

For those who have not heard, the Detroit Grand Prix for 2009 has been canceled. The city is stating that it cannot afford to support the race, but isn't the idea of having a race in the city to bring in revenue for the city? I'm going to miss the AMLS cars this year...Oh well, I guess Road America will have to get my money instead of supporting my home city.

Oh, that's too bad. It's starting, isn't it? Car races are pretty expensive to put on, and any revenue the city sees won't show up on the ledgers for weeks or even months.

I'm glad you can afford to support your favorite sport away from home, though! Keep pumpin' those bucks into the economy!

And I hope they can hold it in 2010.
