The best advice I never follow... Forget about what other people think and do what YOU love.

You may soon find out that boxing isn't for you...or you may realize that participating is more fun than observing. There are plenty of examples of successful boxers who are tall and thin. "Wiry" fighters can have a lot of success using their natural assets, get a lot of leverage on their punches, and typically do best when boxing technically from the outside.

Find a gym where your coach/teacher will push you to be your best, but not too far beyond your level of comfort. Beware of gyms that will put you in competitions too early or let you get beat up over and over in sparring. Sparring someone more experienced, more gifted, etc, is OK, but it should be a learning experience and not a session to demoralize the new guy or to make the more experienced guy feel like a champ.

Go for it!

When i was about 18 , i was asked by a fellow worker if i had ever boxed! I told him no and asked him why ? He told me i would have made a great boxer due to my size (just like you) as i had long arms i would have had a great reach advantage. I never took this advice and now regret it a little , so don't listen to others and start training at a local gym. Remember you can always gain weight.

Paul Williams is 6'1 and is better at 147 (welterweight) because his height gives him a huge reach advantage. So if you fight at welterweight you have an advantage at being tall. But no none of your features are bad or will disqualify you from turning pro or anything. Don't listen to those people and just pick it up.

Just remember this name: Paul "The Punisher" Williams

Williams is a real tall, skinny guy. He's 6'1" generally fights in the welterweight division which is 147 lbs. and he is currently the most avoided fighter in boxing right now. So dont listen to what other people say, i have always remembered what Katt Williams said (the comedian) he said "Haters smell success, if they hate on you, than you know your doing something right, so please hate on me"
