Should I get convict cichlids?

What do you think of them? I have someone that is interested in trading me some baby convicts for some guppy and platy fry. I've been wanting to get cichlids for a while but was looking into African. What are some pros and cons you can tell me about convicts besides that they breed like rabbits. What is your opinion of them? Thanks in advance.

Do you think they will be fine in a 20 or 29 while they are still small? I was only thinking of getting 4 or so if you think that is a good number for these guys. I don't really think I want them to breed so do you think all female or all male would be best?

I would not have other tankmates with them. Aren't their white ones that are attractive?

Yes they can breed like rabbits, but they are very very protective parents.Convicts are a great cichlid to start out with. They can also hold there ground to fish twice its size.(My old male convict would go toe to toe with my red terror)funny to wacth but no harm done.

yes for a 29 a pair would be good. yes most of the time they do breed often but u could always sell fry for extra cash.

for 29 gallon it would be somewhat small. u could try putting around 4 maybe. and an algae eater.

ps. dont mix the convicts with the africans unless u have like a min 55 with a fairly aggressive african to hold down the convicts.

You have to be careful what other fish you mix them with, mine ate a very large portion of my goldfish's tail! Not the most attractive of fish in my opinion either (convicts), dirty grey and black colour! I got bored with mine within a very short space of time.
