Anyone who thinks the electoral college is antiquated and should be abolished either doesn't like our form of government or doesn't understand how it works. The electoral college is the only reason our form of government is an improvement over a pure democracy and is the only practical way for the states, not the people to choose a president for this union, who represents this union and not the people in it, who are already represented by the legislative branch. It is the presidents job to protect, preserve and defend the union against everything including the people if necessary. The president is not elected by the people and that is why we don't use a popular vote.

The Electoral College is an antiquated, outdated institution that may once have served a useful purpose but should now be abolished. The people should be able to elect their president directly.

The angryman is correct. No it is not out of date. And yes, we need to keep it. It helps make the voices of those in smaller states heard. Much like the senate- If there were no senate, only a House of Representatives, California would have more Representation than the 10 smallest states. Of course they do already in the house, but all legislation must also pass through the senate.
