my computer doesn't detect there is a cd inside?

okay, so my computer crashed a two weeks ago, and i got the system reinstalled. i had a lot of files and viruses on my computer, so it's logical that it crashed. now, after reinstalling it, it works better, and faster. except, when i try to install a game on my computer, e.g. sims or gta, that i tried to install, the computer doesn't even detect there's a cd inside. when i open my cd/dvd rom, it shows like there is no cd inside the computer. but i can watch movies and listen to music, it detects that. can anyone help me? i don't know what to do.

so if you go to my computer do you see the cd rom?
or if you go to the decive manager, is the cd rom there?
are you sure you can play movies with it?
usually, most cd roms have 3 cables, 1 for the power, 2 is the sound output, it a reallt tiny set of wires, and 3 the big wire connector, which is the data cable. sometimes those go bad. try replacing it and see what happens.
if the doesn't work, just replace the cd rom, they are cheap anyways. you can also test your cd rom in another working computer just to make sure.
