I work as a receptionist at a salon/spa. There's a client who comes in every 5-6 weeks to get her hair done and refuses to let me help her in any way because I'm asian. She has even said to her stylist (who is also the co-owner) that she "hates oriental people" and refers to me and my asian co-workers as "THOSE people". The irony here is that the 2 owners of the salon are Pakistani and Hispanic and they're gay! And she has the audacity to say the things she says.
Because they have a business to run, they still smile at her and deflect her rude comments and brush it off, but I have a hard time doing that. Am I supposed to just take it?? I want to keep my job, but at what costs? Where does one draw the line?

Hah, you really just have to laugh at the ignorance. You can't change people like that so you have to be the bigger person. Now I understand that you shouldn't have to just keep quiet because you don't want to lose your job and confronting this dumb person will only cause problems for you so just be the better person and ignore it.
in a work place you are expected to take it, but if it is making you hate your job then you can just take her aside and just calmly talk to her about it nicely, and just let your manager know that you are going to do this.. i didn't actually think people were so openly racist! but the best thing i can think of is to just talk to her and explain that it isnt a nice thing to say and that it hurts your feelings.. of course i havnt met the woman so i dont know if she would be nice about you talking to her or make a scene i dont want you to do something that could end badly, but you could also get the owners to talk to her so then it cant really backfire at you :)
wow thats a difficult position but if u wanna keep ur job u cant rlly say anything if u offend the customers then u offend ur boss and u get fired thats reality
shotgun or report the racist freaks to the department of fair trading (if your in australia) and then they will close the business down and give them a big fine.
Hmmm-----drawing lines well there's prejudice everywhere you go rise above it be yourself and be proud don't give her the satisfaction of knowing she gets to you.
