Can yall help clarify something for me? it deals with hunting and shooting.... ?

This may not be right out about hunting, but it involves it. I got thinking earlier (partly because of comments that I've received in person out on the field and on here too sometimes).. How come a lot of men seem to be so sexist toward women/girls hunting and participating in shooting sports, heck anything that deals with a gun?
It seems that a lot of people don't believe me when I tell them something about guns because I'm a girl. I'm not saying that I know everything about anything, no one does, its just that people believe guys.
As my sources, I put that I'm the best girl shot in the county, and the first girl to shoot all 25 targets (competitive modified trap) and the first high school girl to qualify for state. I'm NOT putting that to brag, it's just supposed to show my accomplishments and the experience I have, but I've had people around where I live say "Big Deal". I just find it hard to take sometimes because it's a real accomplishment because it's not accepted by hardly any guys where I live.
Can yall please help me out a little? And please, no smart butt answers, I get enough of it at shotgun practice.

I understand that guys need their time, but I enjoy that kinda stuff to. I dont sew or knit or anything- I'm the complete oppsite- I'm really good at carpentry and ag also, things that girls wouldn't generally be intrested in

My boyfriend is the 2nd best shot and the best in regions, also, there are also only 2 other girls on the team and the rest are guys (bout 25 total on the team) and I've never heard the guys say that to another guy.

Yea, I'm addin a lot more srry.. but..
My uncle said that my 20 ga and 243 were "too big for a girl" but yet I can shoot a 12 ga with no problem either. It just gets to me now and then.

and just remembered what my shotgun coach told me- girls are in general a better shot than guys are because of how paitence (probably spelled that wrong) and how we can steady our breathing better- then if that's known, why do some guys still give girls a hard time? (just thought of that question lol)

yea, even the girls at school look at me "differently" because i wear camo and boots, etc and i now how to skin a deer (and other critters too lol)
proud to be a "tom-boy" lol

Hey Sarah your doing great! Just keep it up! You Rock!!!!

Any full grown & experienced male hunter, that would make fun of... OR make disparaging comments about a young lady, that is new to the sport of hunting & an accomplished shooter.... says more about himself than he does about you. You are apparently a threat to his ego. Maybe his guns are an extension of that...lol

Hunting is a naturally competitive sport, regardless of what anybody says... & it will always have it's share of good-natured ribbing. But, there are always gonna be a few that aren't so good-natured... They are like the ones, that refused to shoot bows with me when I got too good for em...lol. Then there are some, that are just down right too stupid... Thank goodness the really dumb ones are kept out by illiteracy...lol.

But most the hunters I've known are of the good-natured sort. They really care about the sport of hunting & love promoting it, especially to new & upcoming young hunters. These are the kind that taught me & that I admire & still look up to. There are many men here that will help you. I can appreciate that there are a lot of really smart, experienced hunters here, that have the enough objectivity to accept us.

A real hunter would love to add another dimension, to their skills, by passing on what they've learned to new young hunters. To have a positive impact in a young'uns hunting career is the best way to have a positive impact on the sport they love.

That is what I have always tried to do..besides teaching my own kids, my best hunting buddy is 18... I am 45. We have been hunting together, he & I, for 5 yrs, since he was thirteen... I taught him everything I know... Now, don't you guys laugh & say that didn't take long...lol... cause I know alot!...lol... He has now far surpassed me in killing big bucks & I am really proud of his skill & accomplishments!!! I feel I had a positive impact on sport of hunting & feel real good about that.

I too know the feeling of being snubbed by men & women alike, as my tomboyish nature, has not always been well received or understood. I was a real tomboy, still am I guess. I lived on a chicken farm & grew up on a horses back. I was in the FFA for 4 yrs. I was 7th in the state in agronomic crops (top 25 except for me, were boys & our team placed 1st (with a 1st, 2nd, 7th & 8th) & won a trip to the national convention in Kansas city.) I was 2nd in state in livestock judging & 3rd in state in horse judging. I was voted most talented my senior year. I had 2 yrs of strait A nursing, read the Merck Manual cover to cover... went to art college, was an iron worker apprentice. I took 2 quarters strait A welding & passed my plate tests, tig, mig & stick. I started a successful concrete company, screen printing business & currently have my own sign business..... ooops, was I just bragging????. Oh yeah & I killed over a dozen deer & tons of game, in 21 yrs. I know big deal, right guys?!? ...jus' kiddin'...lol.

Point is, If you don't blow your own horn, no one will. You deserve all the kudos you can get, kiddo! These few years are gonna fly by... so make the most of it while you can.... Just ignore those r-tards, they don't count for much anyway & aren't worth paying attention to... The rest of us think your great! You've worked hard for what you've accomplished & no one can take that away.

No Worries, Sunshine. Just be yourself & follow your heart! Your doing great!

It is a big deal and you should be proud of your accomplishments.

There's always somebody that going to put down what you do, just ignore them or make their negativity make you work harder, but don't be negative like them. Use them as a bad example.

Before you go blame it on being sexist, understand that they probably would say the same thing to a boy who was that good too, because it intimidates them that you are better. Plus, you are a girl and of course, they think guys should shoot better than girls. So the sexist part is just the icing on the sour grapes.

I can shoot rifle and pistol well but I've always been really bad at shooting clays, so I'm proud of you!

well i'm impressed. guys think women are weak just because they may not be able to handle the recoil from big guns. guys think it's funny to give a first time shooter a slug gun or 3" heavy shot shotgun. thats the way alot of men are. i know women can shoot my mom could handle shooting a dbl barrel shot gun & 45-70. be proud of your self for you. some day others will catch on. guys don't believe my lil girl can shoot either but she can out shoot a lot of others. now she's 13 i told her she could start to compete. guys hate it when a women can out do them at what is suppose to be a "man" sport. i encourage women to do physical sports outdoor stuff. just because your a women doesn't meen you can't do it women can do most things men do. women usually out think men so be happy with that on your side also.women are better problem solvers then men. maybe you should have women run your country too be better off.

Your accomplishments are just that, and you should be proud of them. Most of us on here (including myself) have never come anywhere near reaching the success you have. If shooting is something you enjoy, and you're good at it, please continue to do it and enjoy it. Anyone who says "big deal" is likely just jealous. As for why we believe other men more, most of us grew up hunting with guys while the women stayed home and didn't take an interest in, or know anything about hunting and shooting. There are exceptions, and these days there are more and more of them as more women take up the shooting sports. My great aunt used to get a deer every year, and every one of them was shot right behind the ear. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to any advice that she gave about shooting. In fact, when my wife was learning how to shoot, it was my aunt that helped her the most.
Personally, I think it's great when women want to shoot and hunt. They are more voters on our side, plus it makes the outdoors more enjoyable when there are women out there. Just ignore any idiots who treat you like you don't belong.

I commend you! I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. If you are getting static, I could probably guarantee that it is some young little boy that feels inferrior. I am always impressed by some of the answers given by women in this category and would value their thoughts and opinions. I hunt with my future wife and a couple young girls in our hunting 'ring' and they are a great contribution to it.

Keep it up! Don't let the turds on here let you down. There are quite a few (consistantly good) people on here and I'm sure you have seen that for yourself.
