Micheal S. I put it that way just so most would know what I was talking about..sorry I should not have stated it that way. I did not mean to imply it was the White House lawn.

After reading the responses I am surprised that some with the economy that it is today don't think it's all that bad..wow

It's just another example of how our money is going to get wasted by politicians and people will just let it happen. Obama would have impressed me if he had been able to do something that really was unique and really had a chance to stimulate the economy.

Sod at a mall?
Tax refunds to people that didn't pay taxes?
Money spent on contraceptives?
Funding to ACORN?

This is how you want to spend the tax money you take out of my check?
Impress us Obama, and cut this crap out of this so called "stimulus package".

Below are two links discussing the National Mall. The first one is from a few years back, but updated in July, 2008.
The second discusses the sod etc that is also in the link you've provided.
After reading the first article, it would seem to make allot of sense to correct the problems mentioned given the National Mall sees more visitors world wide than any other park.
I think it's worth reading before jumping to judgment about funds to clean the area up. Apparently, this has been an ongoing problem, and not something that is a recent phenomena.

My thoughts...instead of all the 'earmarks' made by those in Congress for their personal State requests, why not all of them put in for the National Parks Service in order for the National Mall to be cleaned up and maintained. There are some common sense approaches, it's really more a matter of what those we elected into Congress are willing to give up really.
I have a close friend, a Vietnam Vet who goes to view the Vietnam Wall every year. He's expressed sadness in the upkeep and condition of the area over the years. After reading the first article, that view is understandable.
I'm all for the National Mall getting repaired and cleaned up. The area is representation to visitors of our Capitol and should be in good condition. I'm not so sure that the funds should come from the Stimulus package though. The jobs created would more than likely be temporary ones, unless further funding was provided for long term maintenance positions within the National Parks Service.
I'd be more inclined for 'pet projects' funding to be given up first.

This may be a good thing to do but I'd rather that they took bids to get the price down--WAY down.

I disagree that this should be in a "stimulus" package. Making a lovely turf on the DC mall is not going to provide long-term employment or widespread economic recovery.

The White House doesn't have a mall. The "mall" is between the Capitol and the Washington Monument. The mall is a public place. The White House lawn is extremely restricted.

You make it sound like we're going to spend money on Obama's front lawn. That's not what is happening.

Yeah. Lots of pork the Dems want and put in the bill. That's why there is so much Rep opposition. But then, everyone says the Reps are whiners... Don't blame us when your money goes to things like this which is there buddies and it never gets to you. It is appalling.
