Help needed with Nothern (can't go anymore north) MI, clay zone 5 full sun?

I'm am looking to purchase Chestnut Tree, Mulberry (russian), Hazelnut, purple lead plum hedge, rose of sharons, and Purple leaf plum hedges, what I'm wondering is if any one has had any luck with ANY of these with clay soil, fun sun, windy, and very cold long winters? thanks in advance and have a great day. I've also got all the free horse manure I can handle:)

Rose of Sharon, Chestnut, and Mulberry will grow for sure, I don't know from personal experience about the other ones.

Sure, if you dig a big hole at least 1-1/2 times larger than the root ball, amend the soil with the composted manure, mulch well and stake your terr should do quite well. The most important parts are preparation and protection.

I think you could probably grow all of those on your list except the Hazelnut. Filberts will not tolerate freezing. You should visit a local nursery and quiz them about what you want to plant. They can give you more accurate answers than we can.
