Without the tearful public ceremony that accompanied his retirement announcement from the Green Bay Packers just 11 months ago, quarterback Brett Favre has instructed agent Bus Cook to inform the New York Jets today that he plans to retire.

In an email to ESPN's Ed Werder, Favre indicated he had no regrets about finishing his career with the Jets rather than with the Green Bay Packers franchise he represented for his previous 16 NFL seasons. He specifically praised Tannenbaum, Jets owner Woody Johnson and fired coach Eric Mangini _ and even mentioned Thomas Jones and Kerry Rhodes, both of whom were publicly critical of Favre after the team's collapse in the final month of the season prevented the Jets from making the playoffs.

Seems like I just went through this...lol Another legend in football retires. It's for real, soon his year with the Jets will be nothing more than a footnote. His place is secure in Packer history and Favre will again be remembered by Packer fans for all that he did.

Brett's not out to irritate the Jets, last season he was wanted, many Jet fans were thrilled. He knows the deal. He's done and as a Packer fan I send him out for real with gratitude.

The only thing I can say is, I hope this is his last retirement. Favre may be a great player on paper, but him pulling that stunt really back fired on him. The Jets were slightly better than their previous 4-12 record, but when you look at it in perspective, him coming back didn't make a major impact. Their coach was fired as a result, and they collapsed towards the end of the season. I think Favre retiring is a good idea if he really is going to do it. I hope he doesn't change his mind again. In fact, I don't think he will. I believe a lot of the reason he is retiring now is so he can avoid further embarrassment. The thing is, if Favre were to come back, and the Jets don't do any better than they did this past season, then he will be the scapegoat once again. I don't think he wants to live with that. He doesn't have anything more to prove. His first retirement should have been his last, but since he wanted to give it one more shot, he did, but it wasn't a good idea. He failed this past season. I wish him the best, but he really should make this his last. But I do feel bad for the Jets, because now they don't have anyone they can turn to with the exception of free-agency or draft.

I enjoyed watching him through the first half of the season when he was healthy, and I still think he's got some of the old Brett Favre left if he has a change of heart.

If this is really it, things didn't work as I'd hoped, but at least he gave it his best shot. I'm glad I got to see him play for the Jets.

It was never about proving anything. He has nothing to prove, and he had nothing to prove last year. He just loves to play the game, and the longer he's away from it, the more he seems to get that empty feeling of the lifestyle he's known for decades coming to an end. He wasn't ready for that last year, and I'm not sure he is now.

I'm a Packers fan. It was annoying when he said he was going to retire and then came back. You will never know for sure until he leaves. I don't think he will. He did turn around the jets this season. and two back to back seasons with dissappoint ends I think he will come back.

I just hope he can do it w/out the crying this time. I also feel if the Jets had Chad Pennington last year, they would've made the playoffs. I am a New England fan and was actually happy they brought in Brett Favre, not because he is a bad quarterback, just not what he used to be. He had 22 TDs and 22 INTs and an 81.0 Passer rating last year compared to Chad's 19 TDs and 7 INTs and a 97.4 passer rating in Miami. Both play in the same division. I hope Tom Brady can play as long as he has, but w/out the decline in production.
